I usually have very good numbers 2 hours after the meal, it is after 3-5 i get spikes in the evening. So my goal is to have as flat as possible, even if it is not possible. I try to figure out how to split dosage and when to extend bolus. My timing seems to be wrong all the time
Have you thought about increasing your basal? Unless you are eating high carb/high fat meals like pizza, 3-5 hours after the meal is caused by too little basal. I know it's hard to get it exact on shots.
I used to cut my strips in half as well, and crazy how we accepted the 120-180 range where now I freak out with a 160.
Right now I am trying so hard to achieve less spikes and long lasting highs, as I have developed diabetic retinopathy (MD not concerned) and I had protein in my urine (endo not concerned) Oy cause my A1C was okay and like always endo thinks everything is okay if A1C is in line.
I eat one slice of either 8G of carb bread or 15G of carb bread (sprouted Ezekiel stuff...) on days I do pushups and pullups since feeding muscles is supposed to grow them, plus veggies (spinach+broccoli) and eggs or eggbeaters, in an omlette. I checked it with "Lose It" and it's around 25G of carbs so not super low carb but not exactly bonkers carby either. If I don't do pushups, I usually skip the bread. I've been eating that for breakfast pretty consistently since Aug 2011 but the BGs are not as consistent as the food, sometimes high, sometimes low. I've tried cranking up ratios, etc. but it still is low sometimes and high other times.
:-)
DP sucks
My goal is to always be between the 70-140 range. So I will check prior to meals and two hours after. If they fall between those numbers then I know I adjusted insulin doses correctly. But if I have something like 150, two hours later, then I'll do a little correction.
