Hello Patty:
How do things stand with your son?
I would like to provide a link to something that I wrote a while ago, and have worked on for many, many years. Perhaps if you thought it was helpful, you could print it for him, the first one was my best:

There are many very senior diabetics, women, men here who understand exactly where he is at, I believe we all have been there at some point. Every diabetic I know would love to ignore and pretend it is gone. Sounds like a “diabetic vacation” is in order for the young man. He needs someone to take the burden from him, for a weekend, 72 hours. Give him help for a few days… as if he was very small boy once again, except a diabetic little boy . You, your husband somebody does every single diabetic thing for him and will give him no say in the matter, once you offered it (as a special gift) and he accepts this gift.
If you were his “partner” there are other more persuasive methods quite available. As his mother, you still have many options… As a group of some pretty serious diabetic experience, I’ll bet we can get to him, if someone has not already? So where do things stand mom?
Stuart
