A pump and a ride!

Just coming up on a year being on a pump. For the most part not to bad will get my new A1c next week and I am expecting some pretty good numbers. Last year I had to take half a year off my bicycle due to doctors orders. It was tough because it's a big part of who I am. Getting my legs back is shape has been a real challenge not even sure I could do a 50 mile ride right now. That being said though I am starting to get some mile on my legs including riding 9 of the last 10 days. This is where I need some advice - Hypothetically what do you want to be at before you do a 20,30, 40, or 50 mile ride. Even going for a 20 mile ride and cutting my current houring basal down by 50% and starting at 220 I will be 75 by the end of the ride - and 75 stays with me a while even after eating 70 grams of Carb - it also usually makes me low at night. I have even gone to the extreme of disconnecting from my pump but I drift to high, then I make a corrective basal and I seem to become very sensative to the insulin altogether for some reason.

Any advice will be helpful.

Ive been riding alot lately. I usually cut my bsal by 50% also. I have a little gel flask on my frame that I either feel with Gu or honey and and I take a little squirt every 20 minutes or so.

If your just starting to ride again the muscles in your legs are gonna be pumped and hyper-sensative to insulin after. Everybody responds a little different so youll have to adjust your insulin and eat.

I just did 20 miles on sunday for the Tour de Cure and I started out at 340 and ended up at 60 and wouldn’t come up. So what i’ve tried is the 50% decrease in basal for the entire ride and then for about 4 hours afterwards and I use the Hammer Gels, I think it’s 29g of carbs, and I use one for every ten miles. I went out this morning and rode as well doing this regimen, so far, according to my dexcom it’s been 3 and a half hours since I stopped riding and I’m sitting at 145 which is prefect for me. I hope this helps!
