OK. I know what A1C is, and I know what BG's are. But what are bolos? A few people mentioned those. I am not sure I spelled it right. Thanks

a bolus is a burst of insulin you take before eating a meal, to cover the carbs eaten, either by injection, or using a pump. see this glossary
Hi Beatrice,
Welcome to TuD. There are a lot of abbreviations used here. Some are certainly more obscure than others. A bolus is a dose of fast acting insulin usually taken before a meal to cover the carbohydrates in that meal, basal is the long acting "background" insulin that people taking shots (MDI= multiple daily injections)use lantus or levemir, people on a pump have a basal rate going all the time.
I will look for a post about acronyms that are commonly used here and will post it for you.
and here's a page with acronyms

Thank, Marie and Claire. I have a lot to learn ;-)

This is the discussion about abbreviations that are commonly used here at TuD.
Ha, ha. I do use Humalog before each meal and Lantus before bedtime. I just didn't know what those before meals shots were called. Live and learn ;-)

Lol, for the longest time I didn't know what mdi was... even though I'm on them... someone on another site told me! I usually wait 20 minutes after my bolus to eat otherwise I spike.
I kind of like "bolos" due to the sci-fi link! "An artificially intelligent, superheavy tank..."
When I got my pump, I learned the terms bolus and basal. My educator was very surprised that I didn't know what they meant but I was blissfully clueless. I just called them meal-time and long-lasting!
"Mealtime" and "long lasting" . . . actually, that's a pretty good way to explain what they are in easily understandable terms. I'm going to remember those for the next time I encounter a teachable moment. Thanx!
