The Glucose Monitoring sub-category is for discussion about continuous glucose monitors (CGM), blood glucose monitors (BGM), and whatever kind of monitor is coming next!
Hi, I haven’t been around here much lately. I am T2 insulin dependent and am very interested in CGM. I am aware of Dexcom and the newly FDA approved Freestyle Libre,. I’m getting pretty tired of finger sticking 6 or 7 times a day. Dexcom sounds like it keeps better track of BG levels,. I have Medicare primary – and “the Blues” (federal) Secondary (which covers most of my insulin and test strips etc). Does Medicare cover CGM devices? How about the secondary insurance? which is the best device here. Any info would be appreciated. I realize that putting the sensor in every 7 days or so is a bit of a hassle.
Thanks

hi, I am 74. I’ve had a Libre 3 CGM for about two years. I would go nuts without it when I have to take it off then I can enjoy a long bath without covering it with a Band-Aid. I go nuts when I have to prick my finger fingers get sore from three pricks no way I know my glucose level without that on. The only drawback is one tends to compulsively check it. The good thing is if you’re not aware of low blood sugar, which I’m not always it tells me the alarms even when I’ve been low blood sugar sleeping it wakes me up and I sleep more because my blood sugar was low.
I have the Libre too before this, which is bigger, but it reads the level rather than you having to enter it on the logbook. Logbook gives you graph of your blood sugars, the equivalent of the A1c, average glucose time in range. The monitor doesn’t bother me at all the sensor I mean no matter if I wear it on the left or the right and I sleep on my side doesn’t seem to bother me the only time you might feel something if someone hugs you and presses on your arm where it is positioned.
