My endo of over 20 years retired. We had a good relationship in that he pretty much left me alone unless I had questions, concerns, or if something showed up in my bloodwork that needed attention. I have had good, steady labs, A1c of 5.7, etc. I saw him every 6 months. It worked.
Now I’ve been assigned an NP, and I’m sensing she’s going to be helicoptering me. I’ve had these sorts before—they go over glucose/food/insulin records from weeks before my appointment and ask things like “why did you do this?” or “you shouldn’t have taken insulin here you should have…” blah blah blah.
I do not feel respected or trusted. It’s upsetting me.
Perhaps she’s just trying to get a handle on how I do day-to-day treatments, but I really, really don’t want or need a babysitter.
It’s really odd. During the appointment she kept saying my labs were great, I take good care of myself, etc. Yet she wants to see weeks of Glooko info. I think many of her patients don’t stay on top of their diabetes, and maybe she’s used to pushing them around?
Help me think this through, please. Is she overstepping? I sense she’s one of those data people who ONLY look at data and don’t listen to their patients.
