I have a cracked tooth or a infection. So my dentist gave me amoxicillin 500mg. I did some research and saw it could run me high or low. Dentist said it won’t affect BS. I figured she didn’t know what she was talking about. But I wanted to know how it would affect me so I tried it. It said take three times a day. I only took one and now my BG hit 41 on Dexcom. Checked meter and it was off by 8 points. So it was accurate. How long will this pill affect my BG?
hard to say in your case, but my son had amoxicillin for a ruptured ear drum and because it disrupted his digestion, he was running really low. So if you’re having any stomach issues that could be the potential cause, in which case it should clear up once the digestive issues do.
I’ve just learned to never trust any doctor other than an endocrinologist as to what can/can’t raise my blood sugar.
I recently had a hole placed in my eardrum due to fluid in my ear that wasn’t clearing up. I was very specific in that I didn’t want any medications that could raise my BG. The doctor prescribed Levaquin (can raise BG) and Ciprodex (Cirpo ear drop with dexamethasone - a corticosteroid). I declined the Levaquin as I had several contraindications for it, and argued against the Ciprodex. He said you can’t get high blood sugar from ear drops.
Guess what happened? Yep.
I later found a study showing that eyedrops with dexamethasone had been proven to raise blood sugar. Shocker.
I just stopped taking it.
