I was using my stomach for awhile and just 2 sets ago i switched to my thigh area which i have never used and the absorption and insulin impact doesnt seem to be that strong because i can eat maybe a 50-75 carb meal and it skyrockets and if i take a shot it doesnt do that and im positive its not the insulin…
I found that I can’t use my thighs for the pump… My Dr said that absorption differs for different folks. I get the same reaction that you do. To give my stomach a break, I have used the backs of my arms - no problem there… Good luck!
it works just not when i need it most like if im active at work it seems to work ok but when im home on my days off or when i get up in the morning its like its not doing anything
My thighs work for me…BUT I do have to bolus about 30 minutes before I eat (normally just do 10-15 minutes before) because absorption is slower. Maybe you have the same issue? Is it just that you are hitting a high peak…or is it that you seem to need more insulin in general when you use your thigh?
I have that problem sometimes. Some sites on my legs work well, and some don’t with boluses for meals. What I usually do is just take a shot in my stomach for meals, and keep the site on my leg for basal. That seems to work well for me and keeps the big post-meal highs away. Or, if you can’t do that, a simple 20 minute fast walk right after a meal will warm up your leg so the insulin will absorb much quicker.
I’ve only used my legs for about 2 years now, with the manual insertion sets (comforts) at a very slight angle. I imagine if i used the straight sets it might go in my muscle which could affect absorption. Interesting…maybe bolusing early could help and or combo bolus as well as an angled set?
