I started Jenny Craig two weeks ago to lose some weight I’ve been battling with from college life. My blood sugars have been AWESOME but I have been battling a couple lows (high 60s to 70s). I’ve been popping glucose tabs but I am afraid that they will start to contribute to my weight. Short of changing my sliding scale right away, does anyone have any suggestions? Anyone have any suggestions in general about being on Jenny and being Type 1? So far I think I am happy with it, although it is kind of too early to tell. The only huge issue I have had so far was it took me two weeks to actually be approved. They blamed my doctors but I am not sure if that is fully the case.
I have heard that these subscription diets are very leary of diabetics. I’ve heard the same thing about nutrisystem. Sorry, I don’t have experience with either, but it is my impression that they are all calorie restricted diets. I would not be surprised if the diet contains very different macronutrients, causing your old factor for the sliding scale to be off. For instance, if you are used to a moderate carb/fat meal, you would digest more slowly than moderate carb/low fat meal, throwing off your factor.
That being said, I have to ask whether you have every given thought to moving to carb counting. It really is a much better way of managing your blood sugars. If you are interested, I can give you some good pointers to information on the subject. I would suspect that most T1s on this site have adopted carb counting.
Thats true. I have carb counted in the past and it wasn’t that effective. It might be that I need to re-discipline myself. Thanks for your thoughts!
