Apple Watch 2 and Dexcom G5

I figured it was time to start a new post about the Apple Watch 2 and Dexcom G5. I know that it is similar to some older posts, but I hate when old posts get resurrected and are filled with information that is not especially relevant to current software and hardware.

I have constant problems with my watch displaying G5 info from my phone. I have no problems with my iPhone 6S communicating with my Dexcom transmitter. Some of the time my watch works perfectly with this info. But a lot of the time my watch face either does not show a number or once in a while shows an old number.

I use one of the Dexcom watch faces with Dexcom as a complication.

Sometimes the break occurs because an alert has not been cleared on the phone. Other times I’ve used the phone for other things and although the Dexcom app is still open, it is not communicating with the watch.

I am currently up-to-date with all software on both devices. I periodically turn off both devices to see if a reboot will help, but it doesn’t make a difference.

Any suggestions anyone???

Hi! I use my Pebble watch (Kickstarter project) to monitor my daughter’s BG throughout the day & similar to you it doesn’t always communicate correctly. Also, I’ve recently noticed it’s doing the opposite, working on my watch but not displaying on my phone.

I usually choose another watchface & then jump back to the CGM watchface & that seems to work. My Pebble has a pretty good range so sometimes I don’t realize how far away I actually am; this probably doesn’t happen since you’re with your watch & CGM, but I need to sync them back up again once it’s in range.

Also, the tech people at Dexcom are always really helpful AND they like to know when there are issues so they can check it on their end & fix it. I’d call them & see if anyone else has the same issue. Once I called and was told if there are any updates to the watches or software (in your case on Apple’s end), they have to wait to update on their end because they’re basically sharing code & software between two companies (Dexcom & Apple or in my case Dexcom & Droid) and there are some legalities both companies have to agree to so they can continue sharing info…sounded legit to me but who knows! So, I would definitely call Dexcom & see if they have any ideas!

Hope this helps!

I’ve noticed issues where my watch will lag with updating if the phone is running a number of other processes (Waze GPS and Spotify for instance, or Netflix). I usually keep my receiver with me so it’s not that big of a deal very often but it’s strange that it lags as often as it does.

I’m running a 6s with a Watch 1, but both are fully updated. In fact, I did a WatchOS update two or three nights ago so I know it’s UTD.

Do you have the Dexcom app in the dock of the Watch?
I have seen a missing reading from time to time, but nothing drastic, I just open the Dex app through the complication and go back to the watch face, and that usually solves the problem. This is the way it looks on my watch face (Dexcom on the right side, Loop on the left) and also in the Dock.

Yes! I’m having the same issue, which drives me nuts. The whole point of having the watch was to be able to see my levels on my wrist, without having to pick up my phone during meetings, conversations, etc.

The issue didn’t seem to happen with my iphone 6, but started a week or so ago when I upgraded to the 7+

I messaged Dexcom about it, but haven’t heard back yet.

Isn’t it frustrating that my $24 bluetoooth speaker communicates absolutely flawlessly via Bluetooth and absolutely never drops a signal, but the $700(?) dexcom transmitter can’t worth a damn

Actually my 6S phone communicates great with the transmitter. Not 100% of the time, but a strong 90%. The problem is between my phone and watch.

When I was using the G4 with the Share program, a lot of the problem was between the phone and transmitter.
