Are you an Animas Insulin Pump user? Introduce yourself here

You also have to remember that some endo's and other doctors get kick backs from other suppliers for recomending their pump and animas might not be one of those with that office. So it isn't always a medical reason they don't offer or try to stier you away from certian meds or pumps etc. it is a business and not just a medical provider.

i always have a lot of problems connecting the diasend dongel to the one touch! trying to get it going now, does anyone else have these issues?

Hi Everyone! I am in the process of trying to get a pump. I will be dropping off my paperwork with my diabetes center so their rep can get insurance coverage. I am currently looking at the Ping (first option) and Omnipod (second option) and was wondering are they covered under Medicare? I have Medicare as well as a Humana Gold Choice.

Jesikabeth,

Medicare Part B covers the Animas Ping. Medicare makes you get a C-Peptide lab test which indicates whether your body makes insulin. I've had diabetes for over 40 years and never had that test done previously. As of July, 2011, Medicare did not cover the Omnipod pump.

You really need to contact Humana, since their Gold Choice plan is considered a Medicare Advantage Plan, and may or may not cover what Medicare Part B covers.

Good luck

Another way to go is to contact Animas and see if they will walk through it for you. when I got my pump they did it all for me: insurance negotiations, even went to the doctor's office to give him the form to sign! They want their $5,000 after all! But that was before I started Medicare. Dave is right, they will want a c-peptide and you can be making some of your own insulin, but I'm not sure where the cutoff is. Generally, recently diagnosed Type 2's have high c-peptides.

Has anyone encountered a screen that says no delivery 088-85B3? I'm wondering what that code means.

Nichole, I believe thats the software/hardware problem code.

I'm on hold with the 24 hour technical support now.

The diabetes educator at my endo's office told me today that it is very likely that Animas will go out of business in the near future. Anyone else heard of this?

Blimey hope not!!! Here in UK they’re owned by Johnson & Johnson… It’s difficult to imagine as more & more diabetics are starting to use pumps, and in UK it’s increasingly the Vibe as people want the Dexcom integration. I know there could be allsorts going on behind the scenes, including expenses we have no idea about, but they do appear to be a major player in the insulin pump field. Hope your educator’s wrong :frowning:

Yes. they pulled out of our city. I was contemplating using my Ping for awhile and was advised to stay with my MM pump. I had issues three years ago with them, and apparently it is getting worse. Maybe the focus is on Europe.

mrattler...Animas is not going out of business. I talked to Animas myself. THEY ARE NOT GOING OUT OF BUSINESS. The diabetes educator at your endos office could have been partial to another company's insulin pump, perhaps is what I will say. I have an Animas pump and I am now ordering a new Animas pump. I will not order any other kind because Animas is what I like. It does what I need it to do. and it have the smallest increments of insulin in their boluses and basals. It is the best pump I have ever had and I have had other kinds. I have worn and insulin pump for 10 years.

They pulled the rep here. And the office I go to has no interest in one pump over another. I asked them, because a fairly well known diabetes blogger said the very same thing. I've used four Animas, one Cozmo and Two Minimed and my last year with the Ping was the worst.....Animas aint what it used to be. And there is outsourcing going on.

Do what is right for you and your support.

I asked my sales rep. here in Norway(Europe) about these rumors and he said it´s not correct and that Animas is working on a new pump. I asked about the US rumors specifically.

What negative experiences have you run into using the Ping system, Laura S? I’ve had one for a while and so far pretty satisfied so just curious. Are you comfortable sharing some specifics? Thanks!

Loved the ping, love the whole deal. But ran into terrible customer service issues about three years back. In all sorts of ways.

I've had a Ping for four years and have had nothing but excellent customer service from Animas. In fact, I'm in the process of ordering a new one. I tried the T:Slim, but wasn't happy with it. I think I would really miss the remote since I use it 99% of the time.

Anyone hear if they are planning to have the verio meter work with the animas pump (ping or vibe whenever that is) the same way the onetouch ping meter works? It seems that right now its talk to the pump or my iPhone. Can we not have both? It would seem to me that I both would be a no brainer....

Ron, the Vibe, when it eventually comes out, will not have a meter remote. The remote for the Ping won't work with it nor will the verio meter work with it. I just had this conversation with Animas today. If I'm not badly mistaken, the problem comes in with radio frequency of both the meter and the Dexcom sensor...can't do both. I'm really disappointed to lose my remote as well.
