Baked Pork Chops

Baked Pork Chops

6 pork chops
1 cup white wine
2 cloves garlic, crushed
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon caraway seeds
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 (8-ounce) container sour cream

Preheat oven to 325°F.
Place pork chops in a single layer in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. Combine white wine, garlic, paprika, caraway seeds, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Pour over pork chops and marinate for 3 hours in the refrigerator. Bake uncovered for 1 hour, or until tender. Remove pork chops to a serving platter and hold warm while making sauce.
Pour pan juices into a small saucepan. Stir in sour cream and heat over medium heat until hot, about 2 minutes; do not boil. Serve over pork chops.
Makes 6 servings.

An extremely easy recipe in which pork chops are flavored with a simple white wine and paprika marinade. This dish goes well with almost any vegetable or starch.

Hi Gary, the recipe include 1 cup of white wine for SIX pork chops. One cup of dry white wine has about 8.8 grams of carbs in it (click here then adjust the amount to 8 fl oz). That would work out to 1.5g of carb per pork chop. That is not an amount that will cause dramatic increases in your blood sugar.

Your statements that: “you are killing yourself and it is equivalent to having an ingredient of orange juice or a snickers bar” is not only over reacting, it is also false.

I agree that the typical carb-filled diet is unhealthy. I also think that it is wrong that the American Diabetes Association pushes high carb diets. But I don’t understand why you are attacking members here, especially not this recipe.

I know a lot about diabetes, nutrition, and managing your blood sugar. Don’t assume that we are all stupid. I know that you are facing a recent diagnosis of diabetes. I know how hard that can be. If you want to talk any time, we’re here. You have entered a support and knowlegable community. I hope that it will be a great support to you!

Hi Gary, True that late harvest wine has A TON of carbs. I don’t drink those.

I love dry wine and cook with it sometimes as well. Dry red wine actually lowers my blood sugar  Pretty cool!

Gary,

You haven’t scared anyone, but your attitude came across as on the offensive & disparaging.

Your apology isn’t apologetic, including telling Chadd that moderation is a “■■■■■■■■ philosophy.” Can you see where this is a bit hard to take from someone recently diagnosed?

Don’t understand what your issue is with low carb diets, or what menus, gimmicks & philosophies you’re referring to.

Gary,

If you took the time you look at who you were writing to (Gerri) and her past posts, you would notice a few things:
(1) Gerri eats a very low carb diet and is VERY good at explaining to other members how and why to do it (for one of hundreds of her posts, click here)
(2) For all the help that she has given, she won our community’s “Good Eating Fan Award” in 2009, which means that members voted for her.
(3) She has an A1c of 5.2, which is normal and for someone living with type 1 diabetes, it’s pretty darn impressive.

I think that the problem is that you came here to teach and not to listen. It’s good that you know some stuff about a healthy diet. MANY of us don’t even disagree with you. We just don’t want to be lectured by you.

Gary,

I didn’t say your statements were offensive. I wrote that you statements came across as being on the offensive. In other words, on the attack.

Offer your opinions in a manner that’s less arrogant & people might listen.

I clearly stated that you didn’t scare anyone. Your opinions certainly don’t scare me. And, I don’t appreciate being told that I need to think twice about myself.

My A1c is 5.2. I’m Type 1. You know nothing about me (or anyone else) to make assumptions about how I think, how I manage diabetes, or what I eat.

Unnecessary to enlist scare tactics. We’re all aware of possible diabetic complications.

You should do more research on fats before you advise that fat be eliminated “from body, life & mind.”

Well, that’s very presumptious of you (again). Do you know anything about Chadd? Do you even know what type 1 diabetes is? Do you know how much work it takes for a type 1 to get an A1c of 6.9 (what Chadd has). Do you know what it is like to grow up as a kid with type 1 diabetes?

In fact, I think that you have no clue. No clue at all.

Gary,

You don’t seem to understand that your attitude is inappropriate & off putting. People are offended & your response is–oh well, too bad, they can’t take the truth, which by the way is your truth not The Truth.

That’s not being helpful or informative, it’s being arrogant & insensitive.

Maybe one day you’ll appreciate what we’re saying.

I would like to recommend to all who are reading this, and considering eating pork chops and or following a "low carb" high animal protein diet to read up about Dr John McDougall, he has been curing diabetes for over thirty years. The truth is, a diet high in meat, dairy, and processed foods actually causes diabetes, and fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and lots of beans and legumes will heal not only type two diabetes, and greatly improve type 1 diabetes, other symptoms of a sick body will also disappear.

Calorie for calorie, fresh, raw, greens have more protein than meat, they are full of fiber and very high in vitamins. Meat and dairy are full of saturated fat and have no fiber.
