I’ve used BD syringes for over 40 years does anyone use syringes anymore. All i hear is pumps and pens.
I use pens for basal insulin since switching to Tresiba, but use syringes for bolus insulin. I also use BD syringes, and have been using them for more than 50 years. They work great, and allow dosing of less than full units.
Oh, and they also work great to get the last few units of insulin out of empty pens. And for injecting wood glue into furniture, if that is something you ever need to do.
When I started my pump break (which is ongoing indefinitely), I had several vials of insulin to use, so I got a bunch of syringes and worked my way through a few. Now using a pen but still have a couple of vials so I’ll need to use those up soon (with syringes) too!
I was going to say using pens for basal and syringe and vial for bolus probably will never accidentally reverse them. Then you mentioned wood glue, holy moly don’t get those mixed up!![]()
Syringes are also good for sucking air out of “wallpaper bubbles”
I love my pump (Tandem X2 integrated with my Dexcom). But if I had to go back to MDI I wold choose the newer smart pens. One of the benefits of a pump is knowing insulin on board, as well as bolus (and basal) histories. From what I understand, the newer pens include IOB and can show whether or not a bolus has been delivered.
But doc, its like my BS is stuck high…
I’ve used them for wood glue, most recently I was checking the concentration of chlorine from the pool store. Being able to measure to the hundredth of a ml saves a dilution step.
Back to @BK75’s question I gave up on syringes when I changed from mixing R and N in the syringe to separate shots of Lantus and Novolog. But a week ago I was on a trip, used up my Novolog for breakfast, forgot everything I leaned in the last 35 years and didn’t replace it, drove 2 hours away, skipped lunch and it wasn’t until I was sitting in my favorite mexican restaurant after ordering dinner that I found I was out of rapid acting insulin. Got my food to go and arrived at walmart 10 minutes before the pharmacy closed to buy a bottle of R and bag of syringes. $27 total. I miss walking into a pharmacy, saying gimmie drugs and not caring about the cost. The Relion syringe wasn’t bad.
Have you gotten syringes with the new Embecta branding yet?

I’ve used syringes and needles for lubes, glues and the 100cc syringes with needles to shot up turkeys with secret stuff, without needles to put sealant in tubeless bicycle tires. I quit tubeless for ultralight thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) tubes, less mess, roll faster
.
Glad you were able to get insulin and syringes at Walmart. I have never used N and R insulin and wouldn’t know how to use them safely.
As to syringes my favorite are HEB inControl 8mm 30 gauge needles. I forget exactly why I like them over BD, maybe because they cost lest over the counter than the co-pay for BD
.
HEB is a Texas supermarket chain and inControl products are made for them by Allison Medical Inc. I’ve bought the Sure Comfort brand (Allison) syringes at Walgrens.
I’ve had T1D for 56 years and am now looping with an Omnipod and Dexcom. If I need an immediate “super bolus”, I occasionally resort to my syringes. The pens never suited me; I didn’t trust their dosage amounts as I’m very insulin sensitive.
