I have jury duty this week. My bipolar meds are ok other than making me sleepy by 2 pm if I get up early and cannot get to sleep sometimes until 2am if my mind won’t turn off!
Taking abilify helped cause type 2 diabetes! I take metformin 850 mg 2xs a day and it causes diarrhea and I run to the bathroom sometimes 6 x’s in a 2 hr period. I will not let my dr change the script as I do not have script coverage and this drug is given free from our meijer grocery/pharmacy…
The reason I am writing this is I have jury duty (today we did not have to go in) and I can get out of it with a Dr’s slip but was denied by my dr! I will have to ask to speak w the judge in order for him to excuse me. I am unable to wait for a recess in order to go to the bathroom. And if it is excessive, it will disrupt the courtroom… Getting anxious about tomorrow and hope he excuses me…
Sounds like you may need to change doctors. What kind of crappy doctor “denies” your request, with so many legitimate concerns in your life that would prevent you from doing your best in such a sworn duty to your community.
My doctor wrote me an excused absence because of my Syncope. Along with hypoglycemia unawareness. I agree, maybe a new doctor would help.
My Dr just left for further studies in another state and I will be meeting with a new Dr that has started at the office. But, I don’t see her until next week. I did not ask her as I figured she would say no as well and also since she has not met me yet…
I would call the office and talk to the nurse. She knows you. Explain about the side effects fro metformin if you need to. Also talk to who is in charge of the process if you go to the jury pool. Nancy
. . . and when you call the office, be sure to explain why this is time critical. Doctors have the ability to juggle schedules based on need. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
If you can get the doctor note that would be great. If not tell the judge you take medication that makes it difficult to stay alert and awake in the afternoons.
At least that way you will have covered yourself if you do actually fall asleep.
This…CYA. If you show up and sleep AND you haven’t expressly explained to the Judge / attorney’s why it’s important that you NOT serve in duty, there may be problems. At the very least let everyone involved know that you should not be a juror because you can’t promise that you will not fall asleep during the trial due to your illnesses and your prescribed medications. If they choose to keep you on as a juror, the responsibility for your actions at least is off your hands.
And don’t neglect to mention the bathroom issue, either.
I had the luxury of not having to even go to the court house to explain as they did not have any court cases for our draw number. My Dr left the office to further her education to another state. A new lady Dr took over her patients. Quite pleased with her knowledge. She did add a baby aspirin a day to avoid any stroke and was going to up my metformin by 150, but the hospital ran all my tests but neglected to run my A1C. I opted to wait another 3 months for the test. She also told me that jury duty happens again that I am not that severe and that I could skip my morning dose and to then just take my evening dose.
I don’t know what state you’re in, but I called in and asked to delay my duties because at that time we had no child care for our T1D child. They didn’t need a note or anything, they were happy to delay for 6 months based on me just saying I couldn’t do it. So it’s possible you can call in, delay your jury duty for a a few months, and then get the doctor’s note in the meantime.
Also, in our jury waiting room there was a bathroom, in case that helps.
My fear was I had to get up in the middle of someone on the jury stand and that I would not make it to the bathroom in time!!
