I know it is not easy but (and that’s why I’m seeking your help but as per title, I need to come up with some project as part of my university course.
I want it to be diabetes related (for obvious reasons) and it has to do something with technology/IT/ICT etc. I only have a couple of months to complete it so it cannot be overly complicated.
As of now, my plan is to go with the evaluation of the most popular diabetes apps and maybe make suggestion/do initial work on a new one. There is not much literature on that though What do you think about it anyways?
Anyone’s got any other ideas? Gettin really stressed about it as my proposal deadline has passed already so any help and/or feedback will be much appreciated !!!
can you provide a bit more info as to what your interest in the project is? That is, are you studying - programming, MIS, PM, Sys Admin-ing, etc. That might help with some ideas.
thx for the reply. well well well, it’s Health Informatics Im studying so pretty broad scope let’s just say which might be good and bad Having said that I have more of a medical background rather than the IT which is probably pretty unfortunate and a limiting factor
One idea if you are good enough at computers - tell your computer to participate in a BOINC project related to genetics, with diabetes high on the list of genetics related to WHAT:
The various protein folding BOINC projects should eventually contribute to diabetes research also, but in a less direct way.
No idea if you are good enough at programming to offer them help with updating their programs. If you think you are, you might ask what computer language(s) are involved and what human language is used in the comments - I suspect that project could have the comments in Hebrew, since they’re in Israel.
I’m currently getting started with an effort to help a few BOINC projects with programming. The one I’ve chosen to start with uses Fortran, C and C++, and may use CUDA or OpenCL later. If you’re still interested, do you know enough about some of those computer languages that you could volunteer also?
Also, if you know enough about setting up web sites, would you be interested in setting up a web site to allow people to join a new BOINC team related to diabetes?
Do you know enough about software testing that you’d be interested in having your computer participate in a BOINC project still in beta testing, but already doing some work on genetics for, among other conditions, diabetes?

If you don’t know enough about software testing to be interested in BOINC projects still in beta testing, you could try any of the various BOINC projects related to protein folding; that’s too early in the research path to say much about what conditions it will eventually help. One I’d recommend for BOINC beginners:
Click on the various small projects under the big picture to find which of their several subprojects is for protein folding. You could choose that subproject as your preferred subproject, but I’d suggest allowing them to send workunits for any of their other subprojects if they don’t have any available for that subproject, mainly to help get them out of the way so more workunits can be created for the protein folding subproject.
