Cant get my Basals to work

Hi Everybody

Since I m coming out of my honeymoon peroid, I ve started using Lantus for a couple of weeks now. I ve started on a low dose of 2 units, I inject before bed around 10:30 pm.
My problem is that during the day, if I have a medium active one, I go quite low before meals, sometimes so low I dont know if it would be necessary to treat if I didnt have the next meal right away...

I have done some night testing, and depending on what I had for dinner I can also go into the low 80s at around 2 am in the morning, but EVERY morning I wake up (between 8:30 and 9:30) relatively high ( 116-135) .
So far I ve treated that with a unit of correction fast acting, but I dont like the thought of being this high, possibly for multiple hours every night.
I tried exercising in the evening, eating early, a glass of wine.... No real difference!

I m worried that if I up my dose I ll end up crashing during the day as soon as I do something physically a bit more active.

I conclude this must be Dawn Phenomenon I just really dont know how to fix it....

Any suggestions? Or should I just accept the highish wake up number until I see my Endo (not until may..)

Thank you for feedback!!

...insulin dosing is not a exact science.

Your numbers are consistent with how basal insulin works. You may be able to change your morning numbers by changing the time in the evening when you dose. If I where using basal insulin I would have to give my night dose after 10pm or go low around 2 or 3 am this also will move the peak time closer to when DP starts 3-5 in the AM....somtimes a pump is the only way to smooth out these night time and early morning numbers.
