I'd like to start using CGM I am on the Ping so I believe that I am to use a Dexcom? Not sure, maybe someone can confirm. I also don't think my insurance covers it...does anyone have any tips on ways to save money when purchasing CGM? Or if anyone knows roughly how much it costs for upkeep & supplies?
Best thing to do with your insurance is to either call and check or have Dexcom or Medtronic (they have a stand alone CGM the Guardian Real Time) check for you. I am blessed to have insurance coverage. If no insurance coverage, you will have to deal directly with Dex or MM to see what options are available to you. It is a pretty expensive device - even with insurance coverage, a mistake was made and my 3 mo supply of sensors was incorrectly billed to UHC (Medical) when the coverage for my sensors has been moved to Medco (Pharmacy coverage). I was going to have to pony up about $830.00 for the 3 mo supply (12 sensors). With a lot of phone calls, letter writing, and getting the benefits coordinator of company hubby works for involved it was determined that UHC made mistake and therefore they paid the claim. But you can see at $70.00 or more per sensor, it adds up! Good luck! I am lost without my Dex connected - it has helped me tremendously!
By the way - I had ordered from Edgepark Medical, good company, have dealt w/them since I got Dex. Their "bill" to UHC for 3 mo supply is $1850.40 - that's only the sensors!
Hi: It definitely is expensive without insurance! I tried the Medtronic Guardian and would not recommend it. I now have a Dexcom, and as Korrie says, I can't imagine life without it! It is really accurate and has been of tremendous benefit to me. I also have the Ping. I am anxiously awaiting the Animas Vibe, which is the Animas insulin pump + Dexcom in one device. It is available in Europe, but not yet in the U.S.
