Cgm

I may be able to try one and have heard it hurts to put in. I use a pump and have used flex pens and was wondering how much worse it could be?

Which one will you be trying?

I use Medtronic’s CGMS …have a low threshold of pain ( have been told by Hubby , who does not !) …if I can handle "IT " , I would think so can everyone else …really , it does not hurt ; the first minute second …then sting is gone …it has to be put into the flesh correctly …pull skin taught …45 degrees angle with serter should do it .
No worse than the pump and have NO experience with flex pens ; have been " needling myself " since 1983 .Hang in and try for yourself !!..you are in charge

I use the Dexcom. The pain is minimal, sometimes my Flexpen hurts a lot more, but inserting the senror does feel a a lot different than any needle I’ve used.

I am not sure. I use the Ping pump. My endo thought it would be a good idea to use one from her office for a week or so to get an idea of what is going on with me. My last A1C was 8.5 and before that it was 8.9.

Thanks for the encouragement! I know it would be a good experience to find out what is going on within my body 24 horus a day but when someone says it will hurt I am a wimp! To think what I have overcome in the last 2 years( I was diagnosed July of '08)! I was terrified of finger sticks to test my blood!
I guess it is the 45 degree part that makes me cringe! I will do what I need to do to make things better for myself though. I particularly like your last words…you are in charge! Thanks!

This is good to know! Thanks! I am going to try it and see how it goes. It will be “on loan” from Endo’s office so if I hate it at least I am not stuck with it!( or it in me! Ha!) I appreciate your feedback!

The MM needle is big, but unless you go deep into the muscle (which on a guy my size is slim to no chance of that) then you wont notice anymore discomfort than a regular injection. After that you dont feel anything at all…at least I dont.

I use a dexcom. You never see the needle (which I think helps a lot) and I hardly feel it at all. It is a smaller needle than the medtronic one.

I also have an Animas Ping - they are teaming up with Dex in the future so I figured it would be nice to keep all of my gadgets within the same system.

You can also find a ton of videos on youtube of people doing the insertion - even kids - which might help show how painless it really is. Once the sensor it in place, I never feel it at all.

I use Medtronics and if you look at the needle it may scare you but, believe me it’s not bad at all. In fact I’m fixing to insert one right this minute.

Claps hands together like Pat Morito in Karate kid at the end when his leg is hurt** (Its funny if you remember the scene)

Just inserted my second one. First didn’t even feel, this one I felt but wouldn’t describe it as a “hurt” My pens hurt more.

Thanks! It is helpful to know that you don’t see the needle- it is a god idea to check out youtube! I never woudl have thought of that!

Yes, I remember! Ha!

I am inspired by everyone here! I would be lost( and chicken) without the support and honesty from all of you!

I can handle this I think! If it means better control I will bite the bullet and do it! Thanks for your support!

Thanks! I will give a try for sure!

Oh yes…Im finding out stuff in my diabetic life that I wouldnt have known any other way. just remember not to focus on the number of you BG, but rather the overall trend. Thats what will reap the benefits for you. Otherwise you will overcorrect everytime…or at least I did.
