Changing from Humalog to Apidra

Hi!
My 21 yr son is switching from Humalog to Apidra. I would appreciate feedback-- good or bad. Also, key things he needs to understand about Apidra. Thank you!!

Dino’s Mom …there is an Apidra Group , probably worthwhile joining ??

I did join. That's where this post is, no? :)

This isn't precisely the feedback you are looking for, I expect, but here is my $0.02 for whatever you can take from it.

I recently switched to Apidra from Novolog. I tried Humalog a while ago and discovered that it didn't work for me. I mean it didn't work. Might as well have been a placebo. So I can't compare Apidra with Humalog.

For whatever it may be worth, my experience with Apidra and Novolog has been that they are about equally effective, but Apidra starts sooner, peaks faster, and has a shorter tail -- which is exactly what I was looking for and why I switched.

I think , that's what you are looking for ...Apidra users experiences ?? I tried Apidra for a while and went back to NovoRapid ( Novolog , USA ???)

Thanks so much David. I believe these are the exact reasons my son switched and is going to try Apidra. Funny thing is, many of my mother of type 1 friends have never even heard of Apidra. Why do you think this is?

Well, it's the newest of the fast actings, but it's not THAT new -- it's been around since 2004 in this country. So it sounds like they just haven't kept current. That's the only real explanation I can offer. :)

For quite a while Apidra was not available in a pen, due to some manufacturer's issue (I assume a contractual dispute; it was ucnrelated to the qualities of the product, as I understand). It took over a year to be resolved; you could reliably get them again finally in 2012. During that time I could get my long-acting in a pen, but used a vial and needles for Apidra, which was a pain. I assume Novolog was probably the easiest substitute for physicians prescribing for new patients during the time the pens were unavailable.

However, Apidra, in my experience, still has the shortest duration; is therefore ideal for me for use in the OmniPod, which I started in Jan 2013. Apidra was great even when I did multiple daily injections, where "stacking" can be so troublesome.
