Cholesterol - good or bad?

I just received my latest Lab Results. The cholesterol levels are a bit unexpected.

HDL: 2.57 (99)
LDL: 2.09 (81)
Trigs: 0.48 (43)

Totals: 4.88 (189)
Total/HDL Ratio: 1.90

My Doctor still wants me go to back on statins. But that's not going to happen. My ratio has never been this good before. But my HDL seems a bit high. On statins, my HDL was lower, but my LDL was higher.

I think those are excellent cholesterol ratio and numbers. I wouldn't go back on statins. My brother thinks they actually lower c0q10/ubiquinol which can cause heart attacks as well as do muscle damage.

Also, did he test for smaller density cholesterol/fat? If those are low, with your numbers you are at very low risk.

I can only agree. Your numbers are Great Alan. Your HDL is Excellent.
Mine is 2.76. The preferred HDL is > 0.90. I've heard no legit info
or otherwise on a "too" high HDL yet.

I hope it wasn't your Endo that suggested Statins again. My Endo said that I do not need them when my GP gave me a prescription for them years ago. Looks like the Statins didn't help you any when you were on them.

Thanks everybody for the positive comments.I feel happier about the HDL now.

That is not a bad HDL number at all. You want the HDL to be higher than the LDL, and it is. And with trigs that low, those numbers should not be cause for worry. Statins, which have lots of side effects, make no sense in a case like this, IMHOP.
