Hi everybody! I’ve been posting updates on the general Type 1 and LADA forum about a serial graphic novel I’ve created about a 13-year-old who gets a Type 1 diagnosis, but I’d like to post updates here, as well.
Here’s a quick summary: It’s 1980, and Elle is spending a week in the hospital after her diabetes diagnosis. It’s difficult for her to accept, and her fear of needles doesn’t help. But an assortment of oddballs, including a ghostly mysterious stranger, a punk nurse, and others, might help Elle get through that first week of dealing with the turn her life has taken.
This story is loosely based on my own experiences when I was diagnosed at age 13. Maybe what I went through might help you; if anything, maybe the story will entertain you and show you that you’re not alone in what you’re going through. That first year is a b*tch.
A new chapter of Chronic comes out every Friday. You can either subscribe and have it delivered via email or through the Substack app, or you can just read it via my Substack page. It’s free; I’m doing this because I want to. Start with Chronic #1 to read the chapters in order.
