thanks, zoe..i agree. and my endo did say my CGM looked pretty standard for a type 1 diabetic...yes, I have lows..yes, I have highs and thank goodness I still feel them (not as much sometimes..but that too happens). so, it just seemed odd to be considered 'uncontrolled'. 6.8% is that really uncontrolled, higher then normal for me..but hey. She knows I would never not take my insulin and I test at least 12 times a day. I see Endo Thursday, I'll ask. Agreed Meee, each day is different.
Controlled vs. Uncontrolled I was told is used mainly for visits to your doctor. If labeled uncontrolled that means they still want to see you as frequent as possible. If labeled controlled, trips to the doctor are no where near as frequent I suppose. Not sure 100% on this but is what I heard.
I think "controlled" "uncontrolled" is more subjective. I know that to keep my pump, my insurance requires that I see the Endo people every 3 months, and have an A1C every three months. The A1C part isn't all that inconvenient, but having to traipse to the office is. I consider my self very well controlled, my labs are in the non-D range (including lipids etc). I admit, I resent be considered "uncontrolled" when there is an occasional "off" number. It makes me feel as though "they" don't think I am either able or willing to do a good job. But that's my own issue. After all I have type 1. I sometimes wonder if labeling someone as "uncontrolled" is so that we can keep our devices and large strip Rx's. All too often I hear about insurance not approving devices, large needed numbers of strips because the patient is "controlled" Well, how do they think we manage to control things.
yes, i think that's it Dino. I saw her last Thursday and she wants me to see her again in 6 weeks, having troubles with levemir and still needing - wanting to start pump because I'm sky high in AM no matter what I do, it seems. I think it is for insurance and visits. My Endo also suggested a referral to see the team who does Pancreas Transplants..HUH....WAIT, WHAT? No thank you, think I'll try the pump first.
