CozMore or Omni Pod?

I have a Cozmore pump and I have had it for almost two years. I had a Medtronic before that and the only main thing I didn’t like about it was the inserter. The Cozmore has a much nicer way of inserting the site. I have actually been interested in trying the Omni Pod because my insurance won’t cover the test strips anymore. The Cozmore is a good choice and I like it a lot, I wish I didn’t have to change to a new pump. It is really easy to get the hang of. I hope I helped you at least a little bit.

I have the Omnipod. I’ve been on it for about 3 months now. As a teen, I was on the Minimed but I hated it. I am very clumsy-- always seemed to be tearing off the tubing on a door handle and Lord knows what I would do now, being in college, going to parties, drinking, etc…

Anyway, love Love LOVE the Omnipod. I originally liked it because I thought it would be a more discreet way of controlling my diabetes. But now I find myself wanting to wear it on my arm or my leg-- somewhere where people can see it. Like someone else said…it’s a badge of honor, totally.

That’s not to say it’s not discreet, though. When I wear it on my back/hips, I never get looks or questions. I went a good month without my hall-mates knowing I even had one. It’s a good, compact, pump. Also, it’s easy to carry another one around just in case the first fails (if you’re flying or at a waterpark, or somewhere you wouldn’t want to have problems). The packaged pumps are about the size of my Intuition razor refills (if anyone uses those) so they fit into a purse easily.

My daughter is 18 and still taking shots but considering the pump, she is also a “klutz” type- like her mother, lol. Do you still like it? Is it easy to use, she has ADD and a hard time focusing, overwhelms easily, I have heard its very intense the first few weeks to learn how to bolus, count carbs, etc. Any advice would be great. Thanks, Jodi

Hi Kayla,

I was OmniPod happy, but in the past 5+ months, I have been getting bad pods, sometimes as much as half of the box came out failed right away when I first put it on. There goes the 200 unit insulin that I put them in every single pod. When I called Insulet, all they could do is replace the bad pod plus one or two in place of losing the insulin, as they don’t replace them. It’s becoming more expensive and frustrating that you pretty much have to carry the whole box hoping one or two work while you’re on the road traveling. I am definitely not going back to conventional shooting pens anymore, but I’m looking into conventional pumps hoping that either Insulet is improving or another company out there is producing something like it someday. I love the Omnipod when it’s working. I quite active and this fits my life style, unfortunately the failure rates is getting worse than ever. Hope this helps with narrowing down the choice.

I was Omnipod happy when it works. The product is great when it works, fits an active lifestyle, and life on the road. Unfortunately in the past 5+ months, their products have failed as much as half a box at a time. Most of them failed as soon as I installed it and started to put bolus on. There goes 200 units of insulin that I wasted with the pod. Insulet won’t replace the insulin, so they’ll replace additional one or two pods. If you’re lucky, you’ll get the working ones. 9 out of 10, they’ll fail like the ones they replaced. It’s becoming lots more expensive and frustrating to carry around a box of pods with 2 vials or more insulin on the road hoping that at least 2 or 3 of the pod would work while I’m thousand of miles away from home. I definitely finishes the last 3 boxes of OmniPod then going towards the conventional pumps (not sure which ones yet), but definitely not going back to the old shooting pens. Hope this helps narrowing down your choices. Not so happy OmniPod.
