Creating charity video for Fortune 80 company

Hey all:

I work for Liberty Mutual as an IT manager and every year they have a “Give with Liberty” campain where they match dollar for dollar donations by their 40,000 employees. Last year I believe we donated over 10 million dollars to charity. I have been asked to participate this year by making a short 30 second video that will be part of a broadcast to our entire company.

I have to use the phrase “I connect with (charity of choice) because…” I usually give about 2,000 a year to JDRF but I believe this year I will be going with Dr Faustman organization for her amazing work she has done so far.

Now broadcasting to 40,000 people I have diabetes will probably be overwhelming at first with all the questions I will get, but in the end should be worth it for all of us.

My question to you all is, with 10-15 seconds anything I should/must include in the message? I am being a bit selfish and want to try and sell this thing hard to get more funding for Dr Faustman. Any advice would be much appreciated as I am shooting this video Thursday morning and will upload here when done.

Here is the overview basically:

“I connect with FaustmanLab because I have type 1 diabetes” and then I’m stuck

Thanks much,

Ross

How about adding something about the Faustman lab being the most promising chance for a cure to be found.

You are a smart man sir. I’d bet the JDFR upper MGMT will cringe if Dr F Prevails. Though no one really knows for sure anyones motive from the outside looking in it appears the JDRF seems more interested in talking about curing diabetes then actually helping fund what could be the most promissing research out there.

Awesome that you’ve chosen Dr. Faustman. I contribute to her when I can. I want my money directly in the hands of people like Dr. F who work tirelessly & against the odds, & not to big organizations who use funds for admin costs.

I like Kelly’s suggestion. Dr. Faustman is brilliant. Because I have T1 diabetes & Dr. Faustman is my hope for a cure for a disease that effects millions of people. I’d mention her dedication, credentials & how much she needs funds to continue researching an affordable cure that will be available to everyone.

Looking forward to your video!

I’d say something like:

I connect with Faustman Lab because Dr Faustman is treating me like my life matters. As a Type 1 diabetic, I’ve heard all my life that a cure is ‘right around the corner,’ but in reality there is little funding into researching cures because treating the disease is so profitable. Dr Faustman is a brilliant researcher and Harvard Medical School professor who reversed Type 1 Diabetes in mice 10 years ago. However, she has had much difficulty securing the funding for the clinical trials of her cheap, one-time treatment. Pharmaceutical companies have said that they couldn’t fund her research because if she were to cure disease, they would loose profits, so she has had to privately fundraise. The results of the Phase I clinical trials were announced in June: It’s working. $25.2 million more is needed for Phase II.
A cure for me means freedom. Dr Faustman won’t make much money from the years of work she has devoted to seeing this disease cured. But she understands how much my freedom matters. Not only has her research been groundbreaking in the area of autoimmune diseases, but also in showing that pursuing cures is essential even when it means loosing profits. Please join me in supporting her.

That might be a little long… and needs some editing…

I’ve been supporting Dr. Faustman for a couple of years now. I blog. Created a FB page “T1Diabetes Cure - Global Headquarters” (which has direct input from Dr. Faustman, JDRF, DRI, and TrialNet;) AND, I just released my first book called “A Cure for Emma”. I hope to raise awareness to facilitate the Cure for type 1 diabetes and have choosen to give 100% of my net royalties for the first 5000 copies sold of or first 5 months of sales to Dr. Faustman’s research.

Please check out my promo video for “A Cure for Emma”. It has had a strong emotional response for anyone who has seen it… This can perhaps give you some idea’s for your video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_Vo05Rr1M8

If I can help in any other way - please contact me.

Many Blessings to you with this project!

Thanks all, great advice so far, I’ll try a combo of all of the above and cram it in 15 seconds :-). I think I’m going to do something like:

I connect with FaustmanLab because I have type 1 diabetes. Dr Faustman is my hope for a cure for the millions of children and adults with this disease. With successful Phase 1 results released funds are needed to continue researching an affordable cure that will be available to everyone.

I might need to tweak alittle, keep the ideas coming. 15 seconds is so short!

What a wonderful opportunity! Sounds like you are on track already. Maybe a quick explanation of “freedom” for those who don’t have D. I don’t think most people have a clue what that really means to us (I know I did not a year ago). Freedom from making decisions that my pancreas should be making.Something that creates a picture of that burden.

P.S. KNOCK 'EM DEAD!!
