Creeping Hypo Unawareness?

That’s kind of where I’m at. I will treat anything under 70, to preserve hypo awareness, yes, but also to be sure it doesn’t go lower. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?

Natalie all I can say is test, test, test. I’m sorry that you have noone there to help catch your lows. Even though he was there that day there’s many that he’s not there for and I rely on my bs machine to catch them I don’t use a GCM just use my meter to catch them. FRom what I’ve read here the GCM don’t catch them at all times. I have to tell you that I’ve been a D for 38 years now. Maybe that has something to do with it??? Life can be a B*^$# with the D. Here’s wishing the best for you. Adjusting your basal and card intake sounds like a good idea to me. GOOD LUCK!

Every once in awhile, I will feel a low – I doubt that it is even about 5% of the lows. The weird thing is when I feel them, it tends to be something in the 60s and not the real low ones. Part of me wants to say that it could be the rate of the drop, but I also know from the amount of testing that I do, that I have had some really fast ones that I did not feel at all.

My hypo-unawareness seemed to hit hard and fast. I know mine is caused by autonomic neuropathy and some of the other stuff that it is affecting also started fast so that probably explains why the hypo-unawareness hit fast also.

I used to only treat if it was below 68 or if I felt like I was dropping fast, but now I treat anything below 70.

Update: I did turn down my basals for all but the 6AM to 12Noon section, which is what covers my dawn effect – I’m a late riser, and dawn effect corresponds. So far, I’m running just a tiny bit higher than before, but it seems to be doing the trick!

Natalie, I’m writing an article about type 2 and hypos and wonder if I could ask you to share your story? (It’s for Diabetes Health.) I’m a freelance writer and have type 1 diabetes myself and am researching hypos in people with type 2 diabetes. there seems to be a lack of education about the risks and signs of low blood sugars so I’m hoping my article will bring attention to this issue.
Thanks!
Amy
