C.

I’m basically down to 49 strips…

  1. no am concerned my representatives haven’t either. the CBO says IF congress does what it says it will save $ in long run (but that will some backbone) with some many unemployed and employers dropping health insurance more people are going on federal assistance anyway or going to emregency room for healthcare I’m paying for them anyway. hopefully this will be a more reasonable way to do so
  2. as I understand it you can’t be dropped for having an pre-existing condition
    3.it passed
  3. nope

Lizmari I have some of those I actually have the breeze ones i got the wrong ones but they work just take a little longer. Let me know.

The Breeze ones work on the Breeze2?

yes I got 3 boxes of 100 and can not return so i decided to try them and i get 3 little lines that flash adn they go down to none and count down and get a reading takes about 10 seconds or so but they work and I can not afford to waste them, lol. If you need some I have 2 sealed boxes left.

if you have yahoo messanger i have a web cam and will show you how it works no problem

Nel, I was poking fun at someone.

Hey Phil,

No worries. My comments were not aimed at you just general comments. I worked hard for most of my life until a few years ago. I am sure my tax dollars when I was working went to help those who fell on hard times and it didn’t bother me too much (although I think all of us know there are some who do not try to get jobs etc and live off the public money but that isn’t everyone obviously) as I figured “What if that was me? What if I needed help and needed someone to lend me a hand?” - I would want there to be help available. And now, I need help and the like the others I have probably helped before me when I was working, I need it to be there for me if even for just a short while.

My “Amercian Dream” is gone. I may never have it. All I really wanted was a decent job, a nice place to live, a partner and to be able to afford to maybe travel. I don’t have any kids and never wanted any. I assumed by 40 I would be set for the most part and it is totally opposite of everything I dreamed for. I was well on my way too until the recession, declaring bankruptcy just because I couldn’t find a job in time to pay my credit card bills and now diabetes. I was relatively healthy most of my life. To say the last few years I have had the worst luck is an understatement. I keep trying to remember if I broke a mirror or something but I don’t think I did. Everyone will have a bad period in their lives and if you don’t you are one lucky person - but in that bad period everyone will need a little extra help for a while.

I am grateful for places like Planned Parenthood where, as a women, I can go and get many of the women things I need for free - I don’t know what I what do if they weren’t there. I wish I could say the same for other health services. It is balanced unfairly. For example, I wear hearing aids and I need new ones soon but they are so damn expensive there is no way I could get them now. Even with insurance they are ridiculously expensive. There is supposed to be a bill/ law going around to make them more affordable for people. Even my dad, who has Medicare had to pay a lot out of pocket for his. I just hope I can make mine last out at least until I get a job because I can’t get a job without them.

So not trying to point fingers at anyone but just to say that everyone should just to put yourself in the others shoes - it is not easy to do unless you have been there yourself. There is should be avenues for everyone to get what they need at whatever point they are in their lives.

I hope things get better for you. I am glad you have your friend to help you out. My parents are helping me out right now - I wouldn’t be able to afford any of my diabetes stuff without them.

Thanks for your reply Kim, I believe that it should be there for everyone that is in need from time to time and yes I fully understand the economy I lost everything about 5 years ago and stayed with mother in law for a while and I got a small place that is a constant construction zone but I only have to pay very little a month as long as I work on it  I spoke with insurance today and they will cover my appointments today and the next one and other appointments that are scheduled by noon today. Now I will be without for 60 days for the agencies like St Vicente DePaul for meds and Medicade until September of this year. I am luck in some ways I have family that is also diabetic and we have prepared for hard times my mom has over 1000 syringes saved my brother takes Lantis and has some I may have to cut down on doses a bit but can keep taking it and the doctor visits will work as I will have these and then get new ones about 90 days apart with the same doctor he takes Medicade as well. My brother’s insurance ask few questions and he got many test strips so he has them and he changed meters so I can get those from him and I have Lancet’s saved here this is my emergency backup plan, lmao.

Betty,
I cannot tell if you are contridicting my statement.

You are type 1. I stated for the Type 2. I could be wrong if you have a different type of Medicare type B.

You stated 22 boxes, but did not indicate how many strips were in each box.

Before you read this post I used to be almost totally against it but after much discussion and getting some information I am more neutral on it. I was a right wing some here were undecided and some left that is great thing about talking everyone learns and we are all adults. There has to be a medium somewhere for us all.

  1. Not read anything since the first one.
  2. It will have lots of short term effects which will help prevent long term ones
  3. It did pass
  4. Yes I did

A.The bill is not the real problem I think that if it were put into place slowly and for those with long term illness being taken care of would be great.
B.I now for one that needs insurance to be reasonable with co pays not to high earthier
C.If it will take care of the entire necessary item for diabetics that truly follow the plans given by doctors would be great.
D.One of the main problems is that lots and lots of people are being diagnosed and get no education which is costly if it were free and they were taught nutrition and such may do more good for everyone.
E.I do not mind paying more for insurance if with co pays I can stay in my budget to get the things I need to take care of myself. Not just diabetes either.

  1. Needles 2 kinds
  2. Insulin 3 kinds
  3. Meter maybe every 2 years
  4. Strips as I test 8 times a day
  5. Logbooks
  6. Education every few years can help anyone and does it for the whole family just have one set of materials.
  7. Heart medications

Enough of a list but I take 15 prescribed meds a day plus insulin and then vitamins so I pay for it all and have no insurance it is cheaper that was as all the insurance companies would not cover pre existing conditions and wanted lots of money I found this to be a cheeped way of doing it and I pay over$2000 a month out of pocket. My insurance was for me and family as a business owner over $5000 a month and for me they covered only about $1000 I just could not keep paying that much. As I stated earlier most of us do not go to doctor or hospital until we are really sick and that adds to cost for us all a little preventive medicines and eating better would benefit us all on cost in the end.

Sorry didn’t realize it was for Type 2 and there are 50 strips in each box.

I think a lot of people are automatically assuming premiums will be reduced. Right now I have an HSA high deductible policy for $1000 a month. It does not meet the standards of the new health bill. I’m sure the premiums will have to be increased. Also if you read the bill there will still be co pays and deductibles. So many diabetics will still have to pay out of pocket for many things until they hit their deductible. We have not hit our deductible in 10 years. I think younger, healthier people will be the ones affected most, paying as much as 200-300 a month , so they can offer policies to pre exisiting conditions and cover therir expenses. At the end of the day all health expenses have to be paid out of the premiums paid. I really fear that we will see some kind of healthcare rationing. Many employers may opt to put their people into the exchanges. 18 million of the uninsured will be allowed to buy into Medicaid.
