Has anyone come up with a unique way of mounting the DexCom 7+ to your road bike handlebars? My 14 yo son pulled out 1 of my old bikes the other day and we thought it would be a good idea to mount the CGM on the handlebars next to the bike computer.
Matt E. (my son) and I did a little brainstorming today and came up with the following. Its not perfect but it seems to be pretty solid. We took a piece of foam rubber and a velcro strap (both from an old heart rate monitor) and jury rigged what we think is a decent solution (see attached pics).
Tomorrow we’re swapping out the current stem for a shorter one. It might get a little crowded w/both the CGM and the bike computer on the handle bars/stem so Matt’s leaning towards putting the DexCom on the top tube.
I’ll have him provide an update after his ride tomorrow.
Not really the same as being able to see it right there in front of you on the handlebars but a good way to have it readily viewable and safe is to put it in an iPod arm band. You can see here I race with mine set up this way and can seee through cover to look at glucose while racing in the peloton.
I made an aerobar mount last year, but it flopped around a bit too much. It used the regular case with the metal clip, but the case is not snug enough to really hold it in place, though it won’t fall off either. I abandoned that project for now, and have just been putting the Dexcom in my jersey pocket. My races are either 20 or 60 minutes, so I usually don’t need to check it while I’m racing.
You just gave me an ‘aha’ moment! Such a simple solution using stuff I already have! Thank you SO MUCH! Love it, love it, love it! The case I have, the velcro I have - time to get out and ride!
Matt likes the iPod arm band idea, Peckel. We'll be making a run to Best Buy or the Apple Store tomorrow to pick 1 up.
FYI - We got him a CAAD10 a couple of months ago and he joined the Annapolis Bicycle Racing Team (ABRT) last week. Cant wait for the season to kick off in Feb/March!
Congratulations to Matt on getting on a team for next racing season!!! That is awesome!! I am sure riding a new Cannondale won't hurt either!! I have loved my CAAD7 and the CAAD10 is a top notch racing frame and setup! Very nice! My sponsors just gave me my brand new 2012 Cannondale EVO Dura-Ace for next season so I am pretty excited about that! Cannondale is an awesome company and I love their bikes myself.
Keep me posted on Matt's results and I'll look forward to staying in touch with you!
