Dexcom 7+ shelf life

I can do it by myself.

I can do it by myself, but it does take some practice.

Also noticed I thought I was putting it pretty far up on my arm where it would be covered by a short sleeve shirt. When I put my arm back into a normal position it is much closer to my elbow than it appeared while holding my arm up to insert it

Are the newer sensors the same size as the 7s?

Iā€™ve never used a Seven+, but from your picture, it looks like the G4 sensors and transmitters are smaller.

It may even be the same sensor. At least it looks the same.

You can do it yourself Sam, back of the arm is the best spot for sure, mine is usually high enough to be covered by a short sleeve, watch this video Arm Dexcom G4 Sensor Insertion Tutorial! (Continuous Glucose Monitor) - YouTube

Okā€¦ well not a total failed experiment as I determined that having it on the back of my arm doesnā€™t bother me one bit. Will see if I still feel like I need it after I wean myself off that PPI if thatā€™s really the culprit causing these bizarre overnight trends

Thanks thatā€™s a good video. The G4 sensor sheā€™s putting on there does appear to be identical to the seven+

I sure hope the new ones work better-- I had nothing but headaches with the seven

The 7+ sensors are almost identical to the G4. The transmitters are shaped & sized differently though, so theyā€™re not interchangeable.

From what Iā€™ve read the G4 and G5 are much much better, no contest. I only wore a seven for a week, but have used both the 4 and 5. My young niece who is a ā€œbrittleā€ T1 just got started on a G4 (adult version) and it is wonderfully accurate for her! I passed along to her tips on adhesion and calibration that I learned here, @rgcainmd has a great post about calibration that I printed out, perhaps she can chime in with the link!? Iā€™ve just started using her suggestion to do the first 2 calibrations of a new sensor 15 minutes apart and have seen GREAT improvement in my first 24 hour readings which had always been goofy.

Thanks! What are the differences between the G4 and 5?

Am I correct that all new shipments would be the G5?

You will get the G5 unless you request the G4 I believe. From their website:

The primary difference between the two systems is that with the Dexcom G5 Mobile, your glucose data can now be sent directly to your smart device, independent of your Dexcom receiver. This is possible because the BluetoothĀ® technology that transmits glucose data is now housed within the G5 Mobile transmitter, not the receiver, as it was in the Dexcom G4 PLATINUM system. You have more flexibility with the G5 Mobile system because you can monitor your glucose data on your smart device* (through the Dexcom G5 Mobile app) without carrying the receiver with you.

I only use my iPhone now and not the receiver. Many people feel the G4 receivers had more distance ability and less dropped signals, Bluetooth may be slightly less reliable than the mechanics of the G4 transmitters. I did find that too at first but now just make sure to keep my phone closer and itā€™s fine. The transmitter of the G5 is also slightly bigger. Both use the same algorithm software though so accuracy is the same.

Cool thanks, yeah it would be a priority to me to not need to carry the receiver so I guess the G5 would be the way to go if I get one

To the dudesā€” do you shave the hair off the skin wherever you put these things?

Yes.

I have enough hairless-or nearly-hairless spots to put a sensor, so I usually do not have to shave for it. Sometimes, yes, but not always.

Donā€™t know if you have an iPhone Sam but the new 10 update allows you to swipe right and see your dexcom app without unlocking your phone or opening the app, great convenience.

Iā€™ve tried both the G4 and G5. Both are good choices. I like the G4 transmitter longevity (up to a year or more) and the darker G4 receiver screen ease on the eyes in the middle of the night. I donā€™t see the iPhone display as necessary for me to see my BG. I still can see my BG on my Apple Watch with the G4.

The G5 will likely stay supported longer than the G4. I think either one will be good for the next 12 months. I will upgrade to the G6 when it becomes available next year or in 2018.

This is with the G4 Share, right? The regular G4 canā€™t connect with any Bluetooth devices.

Since there are several pumps using the G4, I think the G4 will be around for at least at least five or more years. The G4 will have to be around until the warranties of the pumps using that system are up, and I think those pumps will be sold for another few years before they come out with something new.

@Lilli2 what is the 10 update? Is this recent? I am terrible with this update stuff!!

@Sam19 I Love not having to carry any extra gadgets!! I pop a dreamboat and a cartridge in my pocket, grab my phone and go!! I almost feel human some days! Almost.

I hope, but worry that it wonā€™t be. Plus, I use (and like to use) the receiver ā€“ may not be able to replace it againā€¦
