My son has been using the G5 since it came about over a year ago. But all the sudden he is getting the ??? message really frequently ( 3-4 times a day for an hour or more). We changed the transmitter, but it has not fixed the problem. Has anyone else had this problem?
Are you talking about weeks or for three or four days of one sensor? I get the dreaded riddle me this (???) when the receiver is confused by the data from the sensor. That usually happens for me if I’m very active and/or get the sensor wet (especially from sweat). Has this increase in ??? come in the last few months? What’s your procedure for keeping the sensor attached and dry?
I think you should also contact Dexcom technical support.
This is not a problem of using the sensor for too long. We change the sensor every 7 days. He is sensitive to the adhesive and gets a rash if it stays on any longer. As for staying dry, we’ve never done anything to prevent the sensor from getting wet. He’s an active 12 yr old so he sweats everyday and showers everyday. This hasn’t changed but we rarely got ??? in the past, now we get it to frequently. I will call Dexcom today.
What I meant by “weeks” was has it been happening through lots of sensors?
I also mentioned keeping the sensor dry because I shield the sensor AND transmitter from moisture on either side. I put half a Tough Pad on the skin where I want to insert the sensor. This keeps sweat from getting to the sensor (and allows me to wear a sensor for a few weeks without starting to itch).
Then, after the two hour warm-up, I put Opsite Flex-Fix tape over the sensor and transmitter to keep moisture from outside getting in. I usually get two weeks out of each sensor.
I’m having similar issues. Tried too long to put up with it before contacting Dexcom, so call them ASAP. Dexcom also sensed that I was re-using sensors by my fast stop/start of the receiver each week. For those, they have denied replacing my defective transmitter. My first G5 transmitter was very good, and had only few problems. This second one that I’m on is a pain in the…
Oh, and don’t cover the transmitter with the tape. I’ve found that does affect it. Just put the tape over the sensor tape very closely and tightly. Replace the Tegaderm as needed to keep it attached. Or cut a hole in the tape before use (harder to do though) I cut 1" strips from 4" rolls of Tegaderm and use 4 of them surrounding the sensor.
