Dexcom

My endo really wants me to get a Dexcom monitor. Can anyone that uses one or has in the past tell me more about it. Is it a nuisance? I already have a love hate relationship with my pump because I hate wearing it but love the convenience it brings. I just don’t know if this is for me.

I got my Dexcom about 6 months ago and now I’m not sure how I survived without it! It is obnoxious at times to have the extra receiver but both Omnipod and Animas are looking into combining their remotes with the Dex receiver in the next few years. If you use Minimed, they have already integrated their CGMS in with their paradigm pump so the pump itself is the receiver.

Also, the Dex receiver doesn’t need to be worn - it can be kept in your purse or backpack, or anywhere within about 5 feet. I highly recommend giving it a try.

HI- I’d suggest posting this on the dexcom users group page. I’m considering dexcom- just requested a trial, which you could do too before paying anything. Anyway, I wanted to know if the sensor insertion hurt and asked there and got a ton of responses! good luck!

I can get annoyed sometimes at the alarms but I also have mine set to get the maximum alerts out of them. The Dexcom is very easy to use. The transmitter and sensor are small so not that noticeable to have on you (I previously had a Navigator and that was huge compared to the Dex). You can also just shut it off temporarily if you want to. I would never give it up voluntarily and will fight to keep it if anyone tries to take it away!

I love the Dexcom. It has been the greatest tool in the control department. I couldn’t live without it now. I don’t find it to be a nuisance. The peace of mind is great. I keep the receiver in my pocket. The sensor itself is very pretty small in comparison to others. I really couldn’t do without it now. I think it should be standard issue upon diagnosis.

I took the plunge. Mine should arrive Thursday. Can’t wait. I was on the fence as well until I reviewed all the comments and research.

Dear Blondie,
Dexcom has, I think, the smallest needle size introducer.
I cannot speak more highly of it and the way it provides a means to check just exactly what food, boluses, and exercise are doing to one’s own body.
It’s definitely the way to pull down swings. the feedback it gives is absolutely the greatest. Give it a real good use and use its computer output to match up with what you gave in insulin and what you took in food. You won’t regret it!
