Hi Everyone,
I have had diabetes for 34 years. I have been a pump user for 9 years(and love it). I am a registered nurse, and have worked in all types of nursing positions. Currently, I am a flight nurse on a medical helicopter. Reality tells me that at some point, I will have to transition to a different type of career. I have always enjoyed teaching, and do a lot of informal diabetic education regularly at my job. I am blessed to have had a great team of physicians and educators in the last several years. I am constantly amazed at how many people are misguided or not properly educated regarding their diabetes, treatment, and available advances in care. I have often thought that becoming a diabetic educator or insulin pump sales rep. would be an ideal way to help others better understand and manage their health. My challenge is that I do not know where to begin… Is there a particular resource or group for diabetes education? Does one have to have their CDE credential before beginning to work as an educator? I would appreciate any guidance that you could provide. Thank you
Sincerely,
David
