I just got my dexcom 3 weeks ago. At first I was really excited about being able to monitor trends 24hrs a day. I’m thrilled that I can prevent more lows than I did in the past and catch stubborn highs more readily. However, I’m feeling a little Diabetes fatigue from thinking about it 24/7 and getting aggravated that my control is not as good as I thought it was. I feel like a newbie again. Obviously not as overwhelming as when I was first diagnosed, but it’s back to that constant vigilance state.
What do you guys do to maintain good control, but avoid fatigue from having diabetes on the brain all day?
Take a break from the Dex for a week, but still test with meals and before bed…
then go back to it…
I usually only use 2-3 sensors a month… otherwise id throw the thing out the window…
It’s an interesting point, and it becomes a mild obsession. I tried to go without it for a few days and found myself missing the abiilty to check in and see how I’m doing.
I am feeling exactly the same way and I got Dex recently also. After 2 sensors, I have yet to put in another. Of course, in the meantime, I have experienced several lows and a high that the Dex would likely have caught!
After 42 years with Type I, can’t remember anything else. I think it is useful in life since it makes you better able to overcome adversary and more disciplined.
Walk away from the receiver. You don’t necessarily have to use the Dex 24/7. I went out for an evening and left my receiver at home so I wouldn’t deal with it (this was before I found out I was preggers). My hubby was a wee bit upset but sometimes you need a little break.
