As of aug. this year I’ll will have been diabetic for 3 years. 1st dx’ed as type 1 in ICU, DKA. 2nd a couple of months ago tested normal for c-pep re dx’ed type 1.5. LOL So now I am just calling myself Diabetic!!! and leaving the lables for the Dr’s!!! Almost forgot, I was dx’ed aug./08 at age 52
Right now i am at 9 months, 11 months in august. Dx’d in sept at age 17. Now 18 yrs old it’s cool seeing peoples ages too.

For me it’s been 56 years now. I took my first insulin shot on February 1st, 1955. I could write volumes on the changes I’ve seen, but I just recently got together with about 100 or so Type 1’s who have had it for 50 years or more. Met a gentleman who has lived with it for 84 years (he’s the 2nd longest) and is now 88 years old. I believe the record is 85 or 86 years long by a man out in CA. We are all (those with it for 50 years or more) Medalists (and have received Bronze Medals from Joslin)and involved in a study being conducted by the Joslin Clinic in Boston, MA to see exactly why we have lived so long, with fewer complications (note I didn’t say none) than many others. Some interesting things are coming out of this study…
10 1/2 years now, diagnosed shortly after turning 16
By the time August comes, I will have diabetes for 11 months. Wow! That’s almost ONE YEAR!!! I can’t believe how fast time has gone by!

Type 1 for 51 years last May. I was diagnosed on 28th May 1960 aged 7.
