Diabetic Pet Peeves =D

Sorry, I like cats and I thought this was too funny! LOL

yeah hahaha I’ve seen a few videos using the diabeetus cat on YouTube. lol

US Congress and the California legislature taxing the development and sales of medical devices and supplies as though they were a luxury and not a necessary item needed to stay alive.

The tax on medical devices (Insulin pumps, BG Monitors, CGMs) is a proposed as part if the new “Health Care” bills now in congress. The people in play say that the income tax will be used to offset cost of health care. Who pocket will get that money…health care providers, that is who!

In California, the place sales tax on all items used to manage Diabetes if there is no prescription. So when you buy strips, a meter and etc. you have to pay sales tax. Twice legislation has been vetoed by Gov. Arnold because they don’t need to exempt the Diabetes items because they are not taxed…hugh…,I just bought some strips over the counter, they were taxed because I did not have a Rx on file, and when I called he state, they said the same.

Thank Arnold, how rude and arrogant can you be!!!

You sir, are hurting people’s feelings by presuming all kinds of awful things about them, calling them nasty names that are not deserved … Your defiling of your fellow man here has become hypocritical to the point of absurdity. The thought of us diabetics sitting around “burning people” and laughing about is ridiculous!

I thank God every day I have people in my life - family, friends, coworkers, community, etc. who I love and support and who love and support me. I’m a big mush. Even concerned strangers who have misinformation are fellow human beings that I harbor no ill-will toward. Thankfully, none have been as accusatory and nasty as you have been to people I care about on here (and yeah, most of the people I care about here are total strangers).

Peeves are peeves. You have not yet shared a “peeve” in this thread. Instead you have jumped in and stomped on some hearts with lashing comments that go well beyond being merely peeves. Your respectful opinion will be honored. However, would you agree that yours are not so much opinions as they are hateful, personal attacks? If I drew that conclusion would I be incorrect? Is that how you really feel about some of us? Is that how you want us to feel about you? (Rhetorical questions.)

You said this is making you feel queasy. How do you think we feel? Do you care? Do you want to hurt us? You are attacking some people who are most vulnerable - and who want to be your friend. We are Type 1s and Type 2s here.

Please take time to listen to this before you hurt more people here who are ready to open their arms, their lives, their sincerity, share experiences with you, and offer you support. http://tudiabetes.com/profiles/blogs/learning-from-each-other

LOL How adorable! Picturing the two of you makes me giggle. As an adult, she’s probably going to be telling the story of why she waves at everyone at the table before eating. It will be as charming then as it is now!

What a fabulous response. I agree 100%. :).

 I agree Bek13.

@MissChievous, my daughter is 7yrs old. And she hates when people ask her if that’s a pager. She is okay with it when her classmates or kids her age ask, she will kindly explains it is her insulin pump, then I explain to them what’s an insulin pump. It’s like it will never get old…

This one gets me going and I’ve been stewing on it lately. The best response I’ve been able to come up with is:

That’s okay. YOU wouldnt have to. YOU would just die a very slow and painful death. We all have choices.

Like I said, Full of venom and havent used it. But there are days…

People thought that my pump was an MP3 player and that I ran the headphones under my clothes, but never saw me actually LISTENING to music (or they were somehow “built in” headphones).

This is one of my least favorite comments as well.

I usually say:
“I don’t do this because I WANT to. I do it because I HAVE to. If you had to, you could too.”

Diabetes doesn’t pick people who are already not afraid needles

Yes, your response is so much kinder. I will keep it in mind should this situation happen again.

That’s exactly what I said when I was told I was diabetic and would have to take shots with a . . . dun dun dun . . . needle!
I was, after all, the kid who had to be wrestled to the ground by five nurses in order to get a Tetanus shot that I most likely needed. They fooled me by asking to see my new shirt under my coat and when I unzipped it one of them pulled it down over my arms, pinning them to my sides, while the rest tackled me and literally took me down to the ground. How’s that for Greek healthcare lol.

Found this on the DiabetesHealth site and thaught this might be quite a Pet Peeve if there was any truth…haha ( http://www.diabeteshealth.com/cartoons/type-1/13.html)

@carb101, I totally agree with the extra food. It’s like once a week. At least they give them out in the lunch room and she can skip it since I send a snack/dessert in her lunch bag.

Well I have a few pet peeves… When injecting humalog or any fast acting insulin in a restraunt, having someone go. Shouldn’t you do that in the bathroom?.. I try to be somewhat discreet while injecting under the table but you always get someone scolding you for doing it in their sight… My response… Would you inject in a dirty bathroom and the usually snarl and dart their eyes and turn/walk away in a huff…

Why am i thinking of somehing akin to a buisness/booty card printed with a list of the common pet peeves and misinformation about diabetes on it that you can print and give to people who pull crap like this on you?

Something to extent I have diabetes, No. I know what im eating, No there is no such thing as perfect control. No i didnt eat too much sugar as a kid and cause this and No. you dont have to feel like your the diabetes police and tell me what i can and cannot eat… and No i will not be forced because of your social uncomfort to hide in a dirty bathroom to take my injections, No that device is not a pager and i will not and cannot take it off because my life depends on it and no, I did not cause this disease by not being responsible and taking care of myself and even when I care for myself, the issues that result do happen even with ideal circumstances
Diabetes is a 24 hour disease and it will have some ups and downs .and there is NO such thing as THRIVING with diabetes, its called surviving and plugging through it, end it with a
Thanks for your concern, I appreciate you passing judgement on me
and point them to a few websites with the RIGHT information

One of my peeves is people that think sugar-free means carb-free. Also the people who think that because fruits are natural there are 0 carbs in them.

the other good thing about alcohol swabs before you test, is you dont always know if theres anything on your hands, even if you wash them. just touching somehing with glucose/sugar residue on it can make you reading wonky, Its a good extra step, even though it does make for a little bit of trash which is annoying, but avoidable if your at home… can always use the sink, or a bottle of isopropyl alcohol to clean off, or even hand sanitizer…

I prefer going to a private place like a bathroom and injecting. The bathroom may smell nasty but as long as you don’t touch your needle anywhere else than your skin, you should be fine. It gives my companions the peace of not having to witness someone injecting and gives me the peace of doing it without distractions.

Even though I myself am a diabetic and had been injecting for almost 10 years, I still cannot bear to see someone else injecting or even the nurse inject me with the flu shot. Some deep seated aversion, I guess.
