okay for my 16 years that I have had diabetes I have had one major weakness and thats the diet and I really need help. I am on the pump and counting carbs and thats not the problem its actually following and diet and serving size and it is my absolute weakness…and I would love if there was anyone to help me so that I can finally get control of my weakness…Of course like most diabetics I struggle with my weight and maybe if I start eating better It will help…
thanks
I had the same problem so I had to get really strict about measuring everything I put on my plate. I just kept making myself do it until it was a habit. Doing this makes me look at the calories I am taking in when I chose a serving size of a food so it has helped me lose weight. It also helped me start to make better food choices and stop eating so much crappy food. If there is a food that I can’t control myself around, I just don’t bring it in the house anymore. If I really want it badly, I go out to a restaurant (like a fancy dessert or fried food) to get it or I buy a single serving package at a convenience store (this applies to junk food primarily). I wish there was a magic solution here. You just have to eat less calories than your body needs each day to lose weight.
I have found alot of protein helps, therefor you do not need to bolus as much insulin with a high protein diet because most of it does not contain carbs… things like eggs, nuts and chicken are great, you cut back so many carbs and insulin when you load up on protein.
another thing I have found great, raw vegetables with Philadelphia cream cheese… chives and onion is my favorite…drool I swear i could sit down with a giant plate of vegetables and cream cheese and it would be like eating a bag of chips… so crunchy. Load up your plate with alot of vegetables first then guarantee you won’t be tempted to get the carb munchies as much. I have never followed serving sizes really (1 cup of cereal = a handful of cheerios… seriously do they want me to starve?) hahaha just replace most of the “bad” stuff with healthier options or low carb foods
You can weight your food.
Symlin will help you control the appetite and lose weight. However, exercise is very important. It will naturally guide you towards better food choices- you won’t want to sabotage your own progress.
/agree on the high protein and vegetable stuff.
May I suggest you ask yourself a few intense questions before you start stressing over what, where, and when to eat.
- What is the reason for starting a diet.
- Whose idea is this food change mine or some else who keeps telling me to go on a diet.
- What is the biggest benefit you will receive from this major change.
- Do you have a support team who will be there for you with their positive support during these anxious times.
Last but not least call this food change anything but a diet, this brings negative results.
I wish you the best!
