Distress and diabetes

So it’s the holiday season. Life is supposed to exploding with happiness and good cheer but this year is turning out to be one of the worst holidays I’ve had. Family problems–a possible divorce in the family, job insecurity, relationship woes are taking a toll on my diabetes control. In times of distress, I know that people have their weaknesses. Unfortunately, my weakness is comfort food. The first thing I want to do when something bad happens is scarf down some carbs. But living with Type 1 diabetes, this combination can turn deadly. Within the past few months, I’ve gained ten pounds. Because my health is my number one priority, does anyone have some suggestions for how to relieve emotional stress without food? For other type 1 diabetics out there, what do you do in times of distress to keep your blood sugars where they should be? I truly believe these rough times will pass but I’m really struggling to keep proper tabs on my diet.

Wii boxing I have found to work a bit–still some comfort indulgences for me as well…but hopefully this will pass soon

walking, sewing, crafts, and of course, TuDiabetes friends!

I eliminated all carbs but veggies.

i usually snack on some peanuts and peanut butter on celery.
when im stressed i usually put on some music to get me relaxed and care free. but i do sneak in a bag of tortilla chips.
