Do you carry vial with you

I have a Myabetic Kamen case that I keep my current insulin vial in along with a spare reservoir, syringe, infusion set, glucometer, test strips, Victoza pen & pen needles, plus a few alcohol wipes and small bandaids. I keep a backup Humalog pen in there as well.

I mostly carry the above as insurance, in 6 months of pumping I’ve only had one occlusion failure. The glucometer and test strips I generally use on Day 1 of a new CGM session which tends to be a bit buggy for me.

You can extract insulin from your Tandem t:slim X2 simply with a syringe.
Works great and very easy.

But really whatever you are most comfortable with is the best for you.

That’s my attitude, Jim! I’ve been a guinea pig for the last couple of years with a new “endo” … and it stops NOW. After the last 9 months of weirdo stuff happening with all these new insulins he has me on … I’m DONE. I want my Lantus back and U100 with a syringe! NO more pods that run out in a day and half. No more miles of tubing sticking out of my clothing here and there w/ the Medtronic pump. No more Triseba!! And now, no more U200… it nearly killed me yesterday. That stuff is for the birds! It takes hours to come on, and then when it does … dumped down to the 40’s! Ack! A vial of U100, some syringes, a pen of Lantus and my Dexcom G6, and I’m a happy camper anywhere I go!

Which should be the most important part.

It is great to have choices. It doesn’t mean you have to be high tech just because it is there.

What works best for you is your best solution.

Tim, I’m trying to FIND the solution, to be honest. For the last few years, I’ve had a DO that calls himself an endo and he’s tried all kinds of things on me. I feel like a guinea pig. ONE thing worked (Triseba) . gave me perfect sugars but the adverse affects were terrifying! Had to stop it! Now, it’s the U200 that’s about to kill me! Had the lowest low ever yesterday and I’ve HAD lows but I’m getting older and my body has had so many, I just wonder if I’ve not done damage to myself! The reaction to the low was SEVERE! Took hours to get over it! I AM going back to just Lantus pens and U100 in vials! No pumps! No U200. Plain jane! AND … a REAL endo when I get down to Florida next month! FINALLY … Leaving Alaska, sorta Normal!

I have a vial with left over insulin in an insulated bag along with snacks, glucose tabs, meter, spare pump supplies, battery, etc. (and lunch on weekdays). Blue ice goes in the bag whenever I’m away from my residence. Insulin is always in a Frio cooler, as much for protection against freezing if in contact with blue ice as for heat.
