Do you routinely give more insulin for certain foods? I am assuming your ICR is accurate

We routinely give more insulin than her ICR dictates for cereal. Cake, pies, are eaten usually on holidays only but they definitely require more insulin added up front. I am now going to add mashed potatoes to the list. What foods do you find you have to give more insulin for (assuming your ICR is correct), if any?

pizza…wow…what a disaster food if u dont take extra! and white rice!

I must take more insulin for any meal with extra protein or fat in it like cereal and desserts and pizza, etc. For example, I take more than what is indicated by the carb count on the label for a Snickers bar because of the fat vs a soda with no fat in it where I can go by the carb count shown on the can.

Actually I pretty much figured that if it doesn’t work for my I:C ratio, it probably is too unpredictable (and/or takes too much insulin) for me to eat altogether, or at least to eat in the amount I used to. There aren’t too many foods on this list for me, fortunately. I haven’t eaten sugar for 16 years due to an eating disorder. Cereal I decided after several efforts at different types, is hopeless. Rice is hopeless. Pizza I can do one good piece of thincrust artisan pizza with a large salad. Pasta I reserve for when I’m out at a restaurant where it’s the only thing I can eat on the menu. Potatoes are usually ok in reasonable amounts, ditto beans. And finally anything much above 50 carbs for a meal and the results get too unpredictable for me.
