Do you take Symlin? Introduce yourself here!

Part of the problem is what type of diabetes you have. I think there are 3 types: Type 1, Type 1.5, and Type 2. All three have different needs and need different meds. Then within the last two…big differences. Some type 2’s can control with diet and exercise, some need oral meds and diet and exercise. Type1.5’s are on insulin, both short term and long, and have to watch thier carbs. Oral meds don’t work, and exercise can raise their sugar. I went to diabetes education and tried their method of eating and I gained weight, felt terrible, and my A1C went up not down. I talked to my Doctor and told him I was going on LOW CARB… and he said…Do it…he thinks it will work better. Point here is that you have to figure out what is right for you and do the reserch. I tried Symlin twice and it really messed with my stomach…plus didn’t do a darn thing for me. I wish there was a magic solution…but there isn’t. Go with your gut (no pun) and do your research online…then try different things to see what works for You! Good Luck and keep us posted!!

I am curious, mainly because this seems relatively new and it might be useful, particularly those who are beginning with Symlin. Just passing this along …

My doctor has one again asked me about Symlin. I really wasn’t interested mainly because I am now on a pump and REALLY enjoy not taking 6 shots a day any more! But it is interesting because it could better help me control my diabetes and help loose weight. Are there any pump users out there using Symlin that coudl give me some input on whether it is worth it to take 3 shots a day! Do you have to stay on it long term or is it something you can do for a while? Does insurance generally cover it?

Thanks!

Been taking Symlin for about a year now and thanks to you guys, discovered the Symlin Support Group. Just had my first nurse call and, must say, I learned a lot. Thanks.

My Endo just prescribed Symiln to help me reduce my insulin intake and maybe lose weight, but it’s SO expensive I’m not sure I can do it… With my current insurance, I have to pay 20% which would be about $350/month! (And I’m currently job hunting so I have zero income.) Is it really worth the cost?

So I had my first Dr apt yesterday sense I got my symlin and have only had it for a little under a month. My a1c is down from a 7.6 to 7.4! I am so happy with it and con not wait till my next a1c because it will be so great with the help of the symlin.

Does anyone know why this happens? I saw the Symlin icon come up on the page meaning there had been activity, so I clicked on it. Up top it says “last activity 11 minutes ago” but when I look the last post is 6 days ago (mine :)). Could it be from somebody joining the group?

I started taking Symlin recently and I've been waking up with higher blood sugars. Has anyone else experienced Dawn Phenomenon on Symlin?

I am thinking about taking Symlin. I am currently on the pump and doing good. I have lost 14 lbs so far with dieting and exercising and my A1C has went down. I am wondering did yall get good results with losing weight and better A1C's?

Symlin has definitly helped me lose weight and has helped with fluctuations in blood glucose. My A1C has always looked good but that is because i've experienced lots of lows in the past. I am currently training to run for an 8 mile race. I have found that Symlin and exercise can be tricky but I gradually figuring it out. My goal is to keep myself below 200 and keep myself from getting an actual low. My cgms helps with this.

Day four of Symlin. I stepped up to 30mcg today, and so far, no real issues with lows or with nausea. I did cut my dinner insulin a little close tonight, though. Will have to be more careful with that.

I have been wondering if I should try symlyn. I feel constantly hungry when I take insulin and I've heard symlin can help with that. I have always been one to eat constantly, usually small meals and snacks. And I have had ibs for years, I'm not sure how that will affect that.

Every time I take insulin even for a correction I feel I have to eat something again.

I am worried about throwing something else in the mix though when I don't feel I've totally figured out the insulin thing yet to my satisfaction.

Do you think this could help me? I don't want to take this to lose weight, although if I end up gaining too much on insulin at some point I might I guess.

Anyone here.....echo....echoo...

Hi…just started Symlin on Friday and I have questions. Started with 15 mcg, now at 30 mcg, and it doesn’t seem to be working. I keep waiting for nausea and I’m hoping for appetite suppression, but I have no affects. Also, no burning sensation when injecting. I even test my pen each time because it feels like nothing is happening. I worried about lows, but I only have high 200’s on half my bolus. My doctor told the CDE to only go to 30 mcg. Is that the right dose? I’m type 1.
