Nel,
I’m confused. Do you think the infection was caused by Apidra? I’ve been using Apidra for three years without problem. I don’t have a pump.

Gerri , I agree as Alan mentioned : a bacterial infection …the timing included infection of my private parts , my right ear and at the infusion site .Swallowed 28 tabs of Cephalexin
Alan , yes please supply the brand name of ( Elizabeth’s ) disinfectant …no aches/ pains this Apidra trial …just unhappy with my numbers.
How dreadful!
Alan , I will check out the Dexidin 2 Solution …and Gerri …it probably sounded worse trying to describe " it" here …thanks to both for your concerns .
I use Lantus as my long acting insulin but started on Apidra for to dose with after meals. I like it because it goes to work immediately but wish it didn’t last 6 hours. Wish there was a fast-acting insulin that didn’t last so long.
Well seemed to me when it came out, it was a Solution to using it for CB’s to bring High BG’s down faster than the Logs do and that would be about it…
Not for LT use or replacing The Longer Lasting Logs…
Why? I guess you could, but I would think you would end up having to use More of it, since it doesn’t last as Long…
My VA Endo won’t Recomend it … I am trying thru my New Medicare Dr.'s , but Getting Stonewalled…
They say I have Too Good of BG’s ( 6% a1c’s) and don’t need it…
I told them, I’m getting frustrated that when I get a high BG ( Above 180’s) I have to wait 2-3 hrs for Novalog to get them back down into the 90’s… So now? I overdose with t NLog by adding +25% more for a CB , then test in 1 hr, then 1.2 hr icnreaments to catch the Hypo before hand…then take a Glucose tab to counter act it…
But that method Does Get the BG’s Down alot faster…
and when you have a 200-300 for some goofy reason, time to take strong Action…and get that sucker back down ASAP… Especially after working hard and ave 100’s all day…
Mine is set for 3 hours. Initially was set for 4, but my numbers weren’t all that great. Things have been much better at 3, plus my A1c’s are much improved as well.
Cheers,
KCO
I just went to the pharmacy. I use the APIDRA pen. I was told it is no longer available. I am Type 2. The druggist called every where. They could not get it. My doctor finally agreed to put me on NOVOLOG. I am upset as APIDRA is the only insulin I have used with excellent results and an A!C of 5.9. Reed
Hi Seagator. I find Novolog works more slowly for me. If the Novolog really doesn't work out for you, you can get prescriptions for vials of Apidra (still available) and syringes. Best luck.
If my sugar can stay on right track with eating stones would eat it!!!! Jumps from high to normal to high to low always tired always either 20's sometimes thirtees Humalog just never did it for me I have tried Novamix, novarapid humalog hamalin apidra and lantus. Now on Lantus, Apidra and 850mg glucophage.

I have mine set for a two hour "active insulin" on my Omnipod. It seems to work for me.
I could use some advice folks. Saw my endo today, and he had no problem switching me to a trial of Apidra. I'm currently pumping novolog. I have horrendous pp spikes, even if I pre-bolus, so I'm hoping the switch will moderate the spikes some. I'll start tomorrow, next set change.
My novolog is set to 3.5 hrs duration... how much should I lower it? Start with 3 hrs? 2.5?
He said my basals should stay the same... yes?
Do I still pre-bolus? How much?
Anything else I didn't ask? LOL
Thanks for any advice...
...and I'll have to change sets more often?
I use 2 1/2. Seems to work for me.
Hi Love to Try Apidra, but neither the VA Endo, nor My Medicare Endo will approve it for me
They also Won;t approve a Pump Either..
Say I have Good Sugars without them and don't need them
Ave 6% A1c's- Using Insulin Pens of Levimire and Novalog
and yes, I have to been to Other Endo's as well..
No Luck !
I would also Love to try the CGM , but just to warn me of Going Low or Going Too High.. But I understand they are not accurate enough for that purpose (yet )..
So I just test alot ..10-15x daily and over nite..

Hello,
Just switched to thigh insert - give the old belly a rest. But Novo active time not fast enough, with 10-20 mmol/l (180-360 mg/dl) pp rise :(, followed by crash at the 5-8 hour mark. So switching to Apidra later this week. The swapping at 2.5 days looks a good tip, any others?
Thanks :)
Have the Apidra in use - still slower and longer duration than advertised.
Also the medicine documentation states is only good for a maximum of 48 hours in vitro use in the pump due to breakdown of the preservative at warmer temps. So to make a site last 3 days, put enough insulin in for 36-48 hours, then add in another days worth when it runs out. Or just change site at 48 hrs. So unlike novo/ humalog, any remaining insulin will have to be discarded.
I haven't found it to 'go bad' after 48 hours in the pump. I also haven't used it during the summer yet. I do have my duration set for 2 1/2 hours, and it seems after a couple of months to be working great. I like being able to see if I messed up on dosing, and correct, sooner.
Could just be the thigh - every set has failed so far... not enough sc fat?
