Do you use Apidra? Introduce yourself here!

Hello Group

I've been on Apidra 6 of the last 7 years (small break at the whim of my insurance company). It works very well for me, love the speed and no tail at all. I'm a pumper.

My endo just switched me to Apidra to see if it mitigates the high post-prandial spikes I'm having. Other than that, I don't know anything about it -- I'm reading here that the action is only 2 hours, whereas I get 3 with Novolog and Humalog (have used both due to insurance rules). That means that if I eat a fatty meal, I'll need to use an extended bolus? Or bolus twice? Not too experienced with that. Do any of you have tips to getting started?

Hi Natalie. I use Apidra on MDI; I see you have a pump. I think everyone has to experiment to find which method works best for them. The time of day determines how I bolus--10 minutes or so before food during the day, and a bolus both before and after a meal at night. I tend to have some fat or protein with any meal or snack. When I was on a pump, I did an extended bolus for Chinese or pizza, two boluses for other meals. I hope you like Apidra; I love it!
