for me…at the end of the day, I think it only matters if I can handle it with diet and metformin, or do I need to move up the meds ladder.
I would ask if the endo can do the cheap blood test to estimate the insulin output of your pancreas and they can test for insulin resistance too. this should indicate what is the next step to take.
the main thing this week is to eat a healthy diet and keep the weight up.
with low carb, to increase flesh/ weight, it is done with protein, the fats replace the sugar energy.
one question, what is your fasting number when you wake up and your before the evening meal number
I did write about my experience getting the MODY test. It came back negative. You can read all about it on my blog.

Had MODY testing years ago when my niece and her two brothers, ages 8-15, were being treated for Type 1 that didn’t act like Type 1–their dad (my brother) and I had Type 2 that wasn’t quite Type 2. The testing done at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA showed we all were MODY 3. The kids were all able to get off/never start insulin. I, at 65, started insulin and now cheerfully use a pump. I never got a bill for the testing and assumed it was covered by a pediatric research grant. Have your doc check out research programs for you.

If you need to find research programs yourself, here is the main directory for their clinical trials:
