Doctor just called, wants me to get MODY PANEL done?

I’m assuming I’ll hear many different answers. In the meantime after seeing my Endo yesterday and going over my symptoms and starving myself still with a little higher than normal numbers. She knows somethings up than your usual antibodies test for Type on being negative. But says she has one more Antibodies test to make sure. I’ve lost a lot of weight (before I was eating less) now down to 108, used to be 115. I lost that in a 2 month period of time. Trying to get to the bottom of why I’m so sick all the time. No, no blurred vision yet but the little spider webb feelings on my legs is annoying I must say. Some pain now every now and then in my finger tips. Anyway, she wants to do a “SINK 8” antibody test…not sure if I heard that correct. After that, If Its negative, then she strongly feels like I should get the Panel MODY genetic testing. Anyone done that? She was thinking of doing a trial with “Glipizide” sp? Would be nice to stop starving myself and dealing with my stomach growling and hungry yet numbers post meal are high. SAD.
Does anyone know about MODY or taking Glipizide

@niccolo can really fill you in on the MODY journey. If I were in your position and my doctor was advocating full antibody and MODY testing, I’d be jumping at the chance! Many doctors pooh-pooh getting to the bottom of a situation like yours, but your doc sounds great.

I think this is the discussion where his story unfolds: Insurance just approved MODY genetic testing!

Well, she called me today after our last 2 visits of frustration. She cant offer the actual genetic testing but wants me to do it. need to find where

Ditto. Just make sure you know your insurance situation beforehand; MODY tests are fiendishly expensive.

And kudos to your doctor. She’s actually trying to solve the problem instead of just tossing out a cookie-cutter formula as so many would be inclined to do in this circumstance.

Hopefully, with the full support of your doctor, you’ll have a chance of getting insurance to pay for it. If it ends up being MODY, it could mean your life (and medical care) might ultimately be much simpler.

I hope your test come back clear, but It doesn’t matter what it is, you have to eat enough. for now I would cut sugars and starches… increase LC veg/salad and proteins, healthy fats, which won’t raise your BG very much

Hey Jack, glad you brought that up. I will always eat good but right now I dont feel good when I try to eat well and I dont feel good when I eat badly. Everything is wrapped around food. If I could go days without eating and not get lightheaded I would. I hate always feeling sick. I’m also so tired of counting everything scared of my numbers going up. I eat small meals or snack throughout the day. This morning egg whites with small tomatoes and hot sauce, felt like I was still hungry and lightheaded, dizzy. So an hour or so later had banana with Almond Butter. Still didnt feel amazing but feel better now. Just extremely fatigued, worn down, sluggish. Maybe you can enlighten me, I’m about to start Metformin ER I guess until she gets the numbers back.
What should a post meal number look like at a healthy level? I know we’re all different but an idea?

My last visit, she basically was like oh well, just wait until you get full blown diabetes numbers. But she called and said after looking at my numbers, my lifestyle, my weight, the way I eat and my numbers, it would be worth searching further.

testing, your meter will tell you when you have too much carb, but it’s very important to to replace the lost sugars/starches Add a bit more protein and natural fats and olive and coconut oils …no grain/veggi oils or margerine

what to expect the first week, and may be why you feel slugish
Preventing Carb Withdrawal on Low-Carb Diets

breakfast would have been, 2 whole eggs with fried tomato, mushrooms in a tablespoon of real butter (100 calories and the shrooms soak it up)…there wouldn’t have been a banana

the hard part is overcoming the last 50 years of fat phobia, normally T2’s are overweight and have time to get their head around it…you have to jump in the deep end

Well since I lost so much weight, I dont want to lose anymore but I’m worried about the butter since I cant seem to get my cholesterol at good numbers. Telling ya, dont know what to eat. I got a dairy free butter…I dont eat dairy but is it normal to have higher cholesterol so young eating so good and maybe because of high sugar.
THANKS FOR REACHING OUT! I have a lot to learn

Each body is different, but carbohydrates can definitely affect cholesterol levels. When I switched to an LCHF diet, my lipid numbers plummeted. So it is certainly one possibility.

This reminds me that one link for the glucose. I had triscuits the other day with light tuna salad on them and my glucose 1 hour was 160! its usually 150 after meals. I of course freaked out, no more triscuits I guess but that in itself shows a problem my husband was totally normal :frowning:

again, it’s carbs that messes your cholesterol and blood lipids
high and kow comparison

cholesterol aussie numbers but worth watching, because it also goes into heart, liver etc. the second video is in USA numbers

I have written a whole bunch of blog posts on MODY at my blog. It is probably more than you want to know right now.

I’ve posted many times that I don’t like Glipizide. You can search for “Glipizide” or “sulfonylureas” and find those posts.

thank you

most would be ok with 160 at 1 hour…160 at this stage isn’t a real drama, your 2 hour would have been better.

ok, gotchya

Are you Brian or going to get MODY genetic testing?

Consider yourself lucky, many of us have been asking for these tests for years and keep getting brushed off. As others have said, figure out how to verify the insurance coverage in advance unless you’re very comfortable financially

Thank you, but I will be on my own in finding the tests. She said she knows its to expensive but worth looking at. I’m not in a position to pay for such high test right now. So, just hoping the last type 1 test comes out negative
