Doctor told me all my sites are used up

Hi, that is terrible. But I can tell you the thighs and buttocks do work, it’s just those sites absorb insulin slower and less predictable than the abdomin. So if you are going to use the thigh or butt, and are high, give the insulin sometime before eating. Unless you are going to excersize using those muscles then the insulin will work quicker so take food quicker. It takes doing blood sugars to determine what’s going on with the insulin. A pain, believe me I know. My daughter is 36 and she has had T1 for 35 years and no issue with sites because we always rotated. And tested, tested ad nauseum to find out what was working and how.

@Dave44 I restart my G6, in essence that is “soaking” them. It doesn’t lead to more failures.

Sometimes after a restart they are off, but I usually do a calibration after about 2-10 hours and then they are fine, sometimes they do require a second calibration. My new ones always get calibrated 2-3 times, and maybe another time after about 5 days.

I’ve presoaked (new sensor) up to 25 hours without issue. For the first few hours the sensor is consistently 40-50 points above my finger stick. It makes sense. The pre-soaked sensor output matches what a fresh start sensor would deliver on time zero + presoak time. Based on Dexcom’s patents, confirmed to me by their regional rep, the calibration curve is very steep during the first few hours hence the difference in blood sugar reading. The calibration curve is reasonably flat thereafter.

I generally wait about 6-10 hours then calibrate. From then on accuracy matches spec. Presoak didn’t impact sensor life for me.

I saw the same behavior when I was restarting but I haven’t tried since I began using the 8Gxxx series transmitters.

To allow your sites to heal, you could try the eversense bridge program… they charge you $99 for the 1st 3 month sensor which includes the transmitter, charger, etc, and $99 for the 2nd…they have a team who tries to have it covered by the insurance oligopolies, however, when its denied, there is usually only a $250 per insertion max set up by the provider that you sign prior to the insertion, so you know ahead of time what the final cost will be…so roughly $700 for 6 months possibly less, and it will work with xdrip so you can customize it and use nightscout, Alexa, etc…its not for everyone though…there are removal scars and the insertion usually takes about a week to heal…the Bluetooth and accuracy is my favorite of All Cgms… it was never off for the entire 6 months…although a large reason may have been the twice daily calibrations…I still believe it is a valid alternative to the Dexcom and libre… but closer to an IUD…especially when they get the 1 year approval

Hi Marie. What is (and where do you get) scar redew oil?
Thanks!

@earthling Unfortunately it looks like it’s discontinued,
It has in order
Argan, Castor, Avocado, Chia, Tamanu, Arnica, Calendula, Lavender, Honeysuckle, Rose Hips, Rosemary, Comfrey, Olive, SeaBuckthorn, Retinyl Palmitate, Lecithin, Vitamin E.

The most prized ones for skin are Argan, Tamanu, Rose HIps but if you look them up a lot of these oils that were in this blend are extremely good for the skin. I will have to treasure the rest of mine!

One of their sister companies has one similar called Scar Oil by Simplers Botanicals

These are both companies owned by Nutraceutical Corporation (they started out as just Solaray and have added over 50 companies now)
