Some doctors are timid about prescribing insulin without verifying the need because of concerns about liability. But for cryin’ out loud, when someone presents who has been on insulin for months or years, that ought to be a pretty clear indication. Sorry you had to deal with that.
Wonder what the liability would be if someone died for lack of insulin? I thank my lucky stars I don’t have a doc like this, there seems to be a constant parade of doctor horror stories here on TuD
I needed to change from vials of Lantus to the pens because the coupons I had would only give the discounts for the pens. The coupons would have saved me $300. ( I am self pay). My doctor’s office refused to give me a prescription for that without an office visit because it was a new prescription. ( I had previously been on the pens and changed to vials because it looked cheaper at the time, turned out it wasn’t.) Only the packaging was different, still injecting it. There were no appointments available for 4 months. Drove me crazy and I never did get that prescription. Just the silliness of it. I am on different insulins now and it is a battle every time I need refills because my medical record is constantly being “lost in the system”. They keep changing their Electronic Medical Record Software and this seems to create havoc with my record. Thanks for the thread to allow me to vent!
Venting R Us. Feel free.
I have to change endos very soon – this discussion (and several others) really frightens me!!
HOW do I make certain to create the right relationship with the new doctor? Riva Greenberg posted a review of the book “What Patients Say, What Doctors Hear” by Danielle Ofri. The book (for physicians) tells part of the story/issue we’re discussing, I believe - from a doctor’s perspective. Question is - what can a patient do to put the conversation on the right track?
I feel your pain, I just recently got an Endo that actually works. I used my primary(who knows me well) to find one that was a ‘match’…after several wrong turns. I think you must go with the Dr who will work with you and who gives advice, watch for the warning signs (no they can’t ‘heal my diabetes’ and yes LADA does really exist and it is different from type 2…
Hi
I had set my digest to receive mail every week and suddenly am getting it
every day. Can you please change it to once a week or even once a month if
possible?
Thank you,
Zoe
I’ll let them know.
