Does anybody know of any college scholarships for having tpye 1 diabetes?

I’m a high school senior with type one diabetes, and im going into nursing at at 4 year college. Does anybody know of any good scholarships that I would be able to try to get?

You can look here (http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/kids/d_02_400.htm). If you are interested in a focus on diabetes, you may have further options. Being articulate about how your diabetes has made you a better person and will make you an exceptional nurse can be a way to get regular scholarship.

There is one that I’ve heard of. You can read what Diabetesmine.com reported about it here:

thank you!

In Canada, the Diabetes Hope Foundation (www.diabeteshopefoundation.com) gives out 20-30 pretty generous scholarships each year to young adults heading off to college and living with T1! (Not sure where you’re living… but it might be useful info for any Canadians who happen to stumble across your Q)

I went to college a few years back, but I got a scholarship through the Division of Blind Services. They paid for my books while I was in college. I graudate college in 1991, but at that time, I guess they assumed I would become blind because I had type I diabetes. I am happy to say that I am still seeing, no glasses at all and enjoyed the payment of the books!!! I guess I showed them. It is worth looking into…good luck.

Also, check with your state. I got $500 (not much but better than nothing) from Social Services, I think it was. I just had to have the doc fill out a short letter that I was indeed a diabetic. But that was in 1986 so the program might be gone.
