I am researching getting a diabetic alert dog for my husband. Does anyone have experience with Dogabetics in Tacoma, Washington? I live in British Columbia, but there is no one in Canada training diabetic alert dogs?
You might want to check with the Lions Foundation guide dog school in Ontario. They train guide dogs but also dogs for other disabilities/conditions (hearing, autism, seizures, etc.) and may know something about diabetes alert dogs and/or if there are any schools in Canada training them.
Otherwise, I don't have experience with diabetes alert dogs but I did have a guide dog in the past from a U.S.-based school and it is really not an issue. If the school is good, they will be able to send people for follow-up and support/troubleshooting as-needed; or at least they did for guide dogs, but I'm not sure if diabetes alert dogs need that sort of follow-up once they are trained and matched with someone.
I already checked with them. They don't train diabetic alert dogs.
