Dual Wave Newbie!

My APN has just recommended that I use a dual wave for every dinner meal to avoid post prandial spikes. I started using a 50:50 over 3 hours. That didn't work, so now she has suggested 40:60 over 3 hours. Why? I would think it would be vice versa 60:40.

What are your ratios and durations?

YDMV (your diabetes may vary), but I do a 70:30% split depending on what food it is. I usually do the extended bolus over 30-60 minutes. I am pretty new at the pump thing too (2 and a half months), but this is what I found works best for me.

I do 50/50 for really fatty foods. If its pasta or pizza I do a 60/40 split and break that up over 3.0-3.5 hrs. that works for me but your body will more than likely metabolize food diffrently than mine. Just try diffrent ratios until you find one that limits the spike, but doesnt drop you too low. Test every hour after meals to verify its working as desired. I always vary mine based on what Im eating and my current BG value. I dont have a set “split” for mine, but 50/50 and 60/40 usually work best for me…

here is another discussion we had on dual wave bolusing that has 176 replies!

I would say that it spikes almost immediately after eating and continues until the 2 post. Sometimes it spikes up to 200!

Thanks for sharing your regimen! I know a lot of it is trial and error, but it’s nice to compare and see what’s working for others and the rationale behind it.

sweet. thanks.

Also there is a TON of info on this very subject in the T.A.G. users forum. I highly recommend going there and seeing what others do. they even have worksheets and other items you can download that make it all very practical and easy to manage.
