Hello All,
Pumping for about four months. Seems like no matter what I do, I peak two hours after I eat. Tried 60/40 ratio at 1 hour. Worse at 2 hours. Blood reading is somewhat better. Would a 40/60 ratio be better or 10/90 at 1 or two hours? I am afraid of getting carried away. Any suggestions? Thank You.
Sid
This is what Medtronic has suggested when it comes to the Dual Wave. It works pretty much for me. However, 30/70 over 30 minutes for normal meals works the best. It took me some experimentation to figure it out. Good Luck!
50/50 over 30 mins for all normal mixed meals
30/70 to 50/50 over 2-4 hours for high fat foods
30/70 over 30 min to 1 hour for higher fiber foods
75/25 over 30 min for all meals that include correction for high BG
Great points, Dave.
I agree with bolusing earlier, certainly. I bolus about 20 minutes before my first bite of food to keep the post-meal spike from happening. Out of curiosity, what’s going on for you at 1 hour after the meal?
And Dave’s right that you might be miscalculating how much insulin you need and should check your insulin-to-carb ratio or double check your carb counting. The dual and square waves are better utilized for those high-fat or high-protein meals where you’re expecting to need insulin beyond your active insulin duration of 3-4 hours, say to avoid a spike 6-8 hours after the meal. Squaring out all or a portion of the bolus means that the part of the bolus delivered at the end of the wave will still be in your system 3-4 hours after the wave ends.
I want to thank you for your reply. You are invited to MyPage to see the chart I uploaded for you to see. The CGM gives me a good picture of what I am really doing. I thought I was doing better when I was on injections. I guess I was taking my blood reading between the spikes. Tell me what you think. Will be seeing the diabetic Dr. next week. Thanks, Sid.
Dave,
I just realized what you are trying to say. I said “Tried 60/40 ratio at 1 hour”. I am sorry I mislead you, Dave. I mean tried 60/40 ratio for the duration of 1 hour. I pump would start right away. Went back to 50/50 and would shoot up higher. I agree with your assesment above. I should have proof read. Thanks.
