Dumb People Comments!

I've had some uncomfortable experiences at Wal-Mart. "Oh wow, you have diabetes, test strips are expensive" Dude, not helping!

LOL - oh they're fine... Made my day :)

They may not have known anything about what a 34 means too? If they are only vaguely controlled it may be like an alien concept?

LOL YES I GOT THAT TOO!!! I hate Wal-Mart. Only go there when I absolutely have too.

you would think doctors would at least tell a diabetic about what their numbers mean... i guess i have too much faith in people

could this also be why there are studies that suggest that frequent testing =/= better control? if the people in those studies didn't know what their numbers meant, then testing really would be pointless for them.

Whoa! So many posts in just a day. Keep it clean folks.....or Manny will bonk ya!

I had an RN at work look at my pump and say, “ya know when I first learned about diabetes and I heard that you could get a pump, I thought gees every diabetic should get one. I mean it does all of the work for you, you don’t have to test your blood sugar, and no more injections. Its like it takes diabetes away!” uhhhh what? Is there a new magic pump that I don’t know about yet?!? I feel jipped!

I think there are a lot of doctors who don't give patients goals/ numbers/ tools to work towards them.

Good heavens. You learn something new each day. Not sure exactly what you mean by 'bonk' but in British slang, that means something totally different. Certainly, not something a respectable married gentleman would do (especially as his wife is online here too...)

Good grief TimmyMac I never even thought of that! You may be on to something. How sad.

Endurance athletes refer to "hitting the wall" as "bonking" too ("I bonked in mile 22 and it my pace slowed waaay down". I suspect there's some relationship w/ BG/ liver chemistry at that point too.

The one i hate the most anf which I think we all agree is “SO YOU CAN’T EAT SUGAR!!” Ha! Just cause we are diabetic doesn’t necessarily mean we can’t eat sugar. As long as you maintain a healthy diet or make up for it with exercise than you should be ok.
There’s a lot of uneducated people out there about diabetes, but yet they talk without knowing.

You know the one about ‘you’re to young to be a diabetic’ bothers me. They think that its only suppose to happen to the elderly but don’t know anything about the subject.

Well not quite - they think you can't eat sugar, but lots of wholegrains and fruit will help. But wholegrains and fruit ARE sugar too...

haha i hate that... I have actually had someone try to take some cake away from me at a wedding saying I cant eat this because im diabetic. I blew up on her. :(

The next time someone tells you something about diabetes like they know more than you (ex. you cant eat that) ask them what an A1C is. When they give you a blank stare thats when you tell them to get out or your business and do some research lol.

my mom offered her pancreas to my son (once she was dead, of course).

Here you go!

"Make me look diabetic?" shirt

Of course it is something a respectable married gentleman would do - but only with one person :)
We use the British version of most slang

I had a "how comes she's diabetic ? she's not fat !" about my 12 yo (rather skinny) daughter. does this count ?!
